He won't flip any red states. We have to have someone the Heartland trusts. And, until they see a Dem doing a good job, they won't trust a "New England liberal."

And I say this as a blue voter in a red state who is engaged to my own Massachusetts liberal (in other words, it's not my personal bias, but those whom I live around).

I'd like to see some new Candidates show up so we don't have to see the same faces again! I think the fact that Kerry and Gore have already been exposed to the public and sufferred a loss would hurt their chances.

If a potential leader doesn't feel the call to lead strong enough to take his case and his cause to us, his potential support base, then I'm not interested.

I am not interested in showing "proper support" to a candidate that isn't interested in proactively proclaiming his/her platform, values, experience, and vision to me and my community.

This is why many are inspired by Kucinich, Wellstone (RIP), and Dean.

I think if he is going to consider running in '08 he needs to
start a slow, but steady media campaign now aimed at the red states
to begin to change their minds and challenge their beliefs. He needs
to make some inroads into their belief system.

I believe he can do it - but supposedly he isn't considering it
now. I wish he would change his mind. But if he decides to run -
this time be fearless about his message and it's importance to our
country.

For example, in July he spoke at a dinner whose proceeds will fund the 2006 GOTV efforts for Davis County TN (in other words, Nashville). On Monday, he's doing a major donor fundraiser for the DNC.

IMNSHO, asking "what has a potential 2008 candidate done for 2006" is a difficult question to judge this early. Big names like Gore often do most of their work behind the scenes. Major donor fundraisers are usually private events, held in private locations, and 95% of them don't get any press. Also, Gore (or anybody else with juice) often helps by convincing other major figures to support a 2006 candidate publicly. There are tons of political and entertainment figures who will work for a candidate or cause just because the right person asks them. A call from Al Gore could get Robert Redford (or a host of other big names) to publicly support 2006 candidate X, and we'd never know it.

Folks running for office in 2006 (and the Dem Party orgs) wouldn't be asking Gore (or other major Dems) for public events this early anyway. You save the big guns for the GOTV rallies close to the election. Otherwise, you get people excited about going to see Al Gore (or Martin Sheen or whoever) a year before the election - - and everything else seems anti-climax. ("At last month's fundraiser Ted Kennedy gave a speech. At tomorrow's fundraiser they only have the County Commissioner, so I think I'll give it a pass.")

Everytime 2008 posts have been made, it seems a number of opponents of the candidate mentioned in those posts complain we should concentrate on '06. While I agree '06 is important, I think we can handle a broader horizon. What the candidate is doing about '06 is a fair question and I am interested because I think activism toward '06 is an indication of the person's interest in an '08 run. A dinner for Gore's home state of TN and a single DNC fundraiser do not indicate a serious '08 run at this point, IMHO. I know a number of candidates have grassroots working for '06 candidates and worked for special election candidates in '05.

Even though that's my speciality. Running Gore would be an excellent idea...if he wants to run.

My personal fantasy candidate right now is Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY). That'd give the NY Post something to squawk about.
