Harry Reid: How much time did Bush spend on Katrina while on vacation?
GOP congressional leaders met privately to plan their next step, possibly including an unusual joint House-Senate committee to investigate what went wrong in the government's response and what can be fixed. Establishment of a joint panel would presumably eliminate overlapping investigations that might otherwise spring up as individual committees looked into the natural disaster and its aftermath.

In a letter to the Senate's Homeland Security Committee chairwoman, Reid, the Senate Democratic leader, pressed for a wide-ranging investigation and answers to several questions, including: "How much time did the president spend dealing with this emerging crisis while he was on vacation? Did the fact that he was outside of Washington, D.C., have any effect on the federal government's response?"

At a news conference, Pelosi, D-Calif., said Bush's choice for head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency had "absolutely no credentials."

She related that she urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Brown. "He said 'Why would I do that?'" Pelosi said. "'I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?' "Oblivious, in denial, dangerous," she added.

1. Reid uses too many words. Those that need their minds changed
are not that bright...keep it simple and direct, and much more forceful. Reid needs to simply say what he means, and say what needs to be said....directly and with few words!

2. Nah, that was in a letter to the Senate's Homeland Security
Committee Chair. That's the right sort of language to use in that situation. Reid is a straight-shooter, and unafraid of the Repubs.

5. You got that right
I remember earlier this year back in January or so he was really pounding the rightwingers and I saw an interview he was doing on CSPAN and he said how the republicans put out some report on how to get him and slam him and he found out about it and came out first and told people. I never heard of them using it after that. Go Reid! I loved his speech at the convention too.

4. That's what's sad
I hate having to dumb down for people. I love to use my brain and I love to have people who are elected officials be smarter than I am. I really like Senator Reid and hope he never changes.

7. Me too! I WANT smart guys running the country!
Although, they say that Bush is really smarter even than Kerry (per IQ tests they took), and that Bush just puts on that dumb guy act to make people like him (and vote for him), by conning them into thinking that he's "one of us." Blech.
