Do we have any Fort Worth or Dallas DUers? We need a favor from...

...anyone who lives or works near the Federal Center in Fort Worth and wouldn't mine taking a few quick pictures.

Today on NPR's "Special Coverage" of Hurricane Katrina, hosted by Neal Conan, A woman who called in said that after she and her husband had their tractor-trailer unloaded in N.O., they were directed to go to the Federal Center at Fort Worth.

She said that when they got there, they saw, Acres and Acres of, not only Mobile Homes, but acres and acres of fully equipped, self sustained, travel trailers!

She went on to say that she had seen all these people camping out on the road and sleeping at Rest areas, and why is FEMA not mobilizing all these temporary housing units they have stockpiled at this, and maybe other Federal centers around the country.

Anyone seen this place? Are these travel trailers visible from the road?

2. That's why I say a "quick" shot, or possibly from the road.
What would be ideal would be a tractor-trailer passenger with a camera, but that might be too much to hope for.

We need something to get some reporters interested in this story.

I haven't hadn't seen much activity in the LA, MS or AL forums regarding other questions, so I thought I'd just try GD or GD Politics.

7. I live in Fort Worth
My husband just said he has heard of the Federal Center. I have not. It's too late tonight but if no one else posts an answer, I will try to find out in the morning.

12. I found the place
I did not see anything that looked like a travel trailer. I was many trailers as in tractor/trailer rigs and I saw what looked more like temporary housing units, not sure how many but I would characterize the number as several to many, not acres and acres.

It is a very large area, fenced off in a pretty seedy part of the city. I drove around the area but could not see everything because it was not a well-organized place and I could not get near a lot of it and I did not feel safe enough to stop and get out of my car.

In short, what I did see was not the picture I had in my mind from the post. But again, I could not see everything.

Sorry, I know this is not very helpful but best I could do.

13. That's fine, that's more information than I had before.
If they do have a big stock pile of these things, most likely, they wouldn't put them out where everyone driving by could see them. I figured they might be in an area that is inaccessible to the public.

At least we know they're not sitting out for all to see. I'm going to see if their is a good Satellite picture of them on line.

Thanks for you help.
