Uh oh -- Katrina may force NW and Delta Airlines into bankruptcy
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 04:42 PM by Eloriel
current segment on Fox News. Yikes!

I'd been thinking rather ominously about the economic impact of Katrina, and not just because of the possible impact on gas prices. I hadn't even THOUGHT of such things as the airlines.

There are SO many jobs lost, so many homes lost (not to mention the lives), that it simply boggles the mind. I just think this is going to be very bad news for the economy as a whole.

1. God.
My father is retired from Delta Airlines. If they file bankruptcy, my parents will lose half of their retirement.

2. Delta is going bankrupt
this may be the excuse they need. When management decided to guarantee their pensions a couple of years ago the writing was on the wall..just a matter of time. High gas prices do not help. The federal government will take over the pension for the regular workers, which means large reductions... Part of the corporate plan, privatize profits & make the costs public.

4. Welcome to DU! This has been in the offing ever since the United Airlines
debacle.

This is, as you say, exactly the excuse they need; and with it they will demand salary cuts from their employees.

Just another example of those nasty welfare... corporate kings.

Anyway, welcome! :toast:

5. Another excuse for a major airline to file Bankruptcy.
Looks like a trial run for Martial Law down their in Norleans.
