Action Alert: Former DNC Chair Shills for Diebold. ASK Howard for Help!
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 02:09 PM by autorank

Joe Andrew, DNC Chair from 1999-2001, is now shilling for Diebold. He’s in California trying to get the state to adopt Diebold after Diebold failed miserably in voting tests. He’s touring the country as the “former DNC Chair Andrew” supporting Diebold. Andrew actually opposed paper trails as part of his shilling: “In the end, though, the speaker (Andrew) wound up condemning voting-machine paper trails, which is where he lost me.”

(Diebold President) “O'Dell is raising money exclusively for President Bush and the Republican National Committee (RNC). O'Dell, in a fundraising letter on August 14th, committed "to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year" according to the Associated Press. In the 2002 election cycle, O'Dell gave $5,965 to the RNC while Diebold gave the RNC $95,000.”(Dem Senenate Campaign Committee)

Lets get some letters to support a REAL DNC CHAIRMAN, Howard Dean and ask him to go public with the fact that Andrew is not representing DNC or DNC positions. This is vital since this guy is on a 50 state tour.

Here is the contact. Be nice, it’s a chance for Dean to slam somebody that nobody in our party supports.

Click here to suggest that Dean disavow former DNC Chairman, now Diebold shill, Joe Andrew

Please share your posts to DNC and Howard Dean by posting them to this thread.

Victory in 2006, one way or another.

1. My letter to Dean
Dear Chairman Dean:

I was shocked to see that former DNC Chairman Joe Andrew (1999-2001) is now shilling for Diebold, Inc. He is in California now trying to get the state to certify Diebold after they've been put on the shelf. He has even come out saying "paper trails" from electronic machines are over rated.

This is not just another lobbyist, it is Joe Andrew, "former DNC Chairman" trading on his position with DNC to promote a firm hostile to Democrats.

Please speak out against this. It's got be be clarified that DNC does not support Diebold and that Andrew is way out of line on this one.

Thanks

4. I guess Joe Andrew really needs the pay check! Drop DNC a line!
Crazy isn't it but not really. It happens all the time. This time, though, we'll call them on it.

7. Actually, he realizes CA is critical: "a powerful effect...rest...nation"
That's why he's starting there - to be as effective as possible (do as much damage), as quickly as possible.

April 23, 2004 - ""If California decides not to have touchscreen voting, no question, I think that will have a powerful effect on the rest of the nation," said Joseph J. Andrew, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 Florida recount."

"If you decertify DREs we will be in court the next day," he warned.

"Every single big civil-rights group, every single disability group feels differently than this panel here," Andrew said.

"We have been talking about the individual problems of an individual vendor," he said of Diebold, "but the problem is, we are making precedential decisions on electronic voting here."

15. done.... my post:
Dear Gov., Dr. Howard Dean,

I am writing you to reccommend that you strongly disavow the actions of former DNC chair, Joe Andrew in his tour of America for Diebold. I urge you to make clear that his anti paper trail message is NOT the position of the DNC and that you use this opportunity to make a major push for verifiable paper trails on ALL voting machines.
Thanks for all that you are doing to represent the democratic wing of the Democratic Party.

Here's mine..

Dear Chairman Dean,

I would like you to please step up and do something about Joe Andrew(former head of DNC) going around the Country saying that diebold is great and we don't need paper trails for our voting. And he's going to California first where we're so close to getting our Democracy back. Voting is our most sacred privlege in this land and we don't want it to be manufactured.

Thanks for your consideration and for all the Great Work you are doing on our behalf with your own 50 state tour!

Note my "manufactured" in honor of your sig line :)

19. A DNC process for banning individuals in extreme cases.
The DNC should have a process for banning individuals in extreme cases. It would be nice to have a way to tell traitors like Zel Miller and this Shill to get lost.

24. You're right on the Brazile point but even that report criticized DRE's
Diebold like machines. Didn't like them at all.

So this guy even goes against that report (which was right on racism and voter suppression but not much else, other than a skekpticism regarding complex voting machines).

31. I don't usually do this, but I liked my note. So here it is.
(It's a little bit rough, could have used a rewrite, but it was straight from the heart.)

Dear Dr. Dean,

Please, please, please, stand up against this former DNC chair who is working for Diebold! Don't let him use his former status to build support for Diebold -- our "Old Sparkey", as Janeane Garofalo would say. Our electric chair. This guy, supposedly a Dem, is busy polishing the tool for our execution. I wonder why?

Without paper trails and effective election reform, we will never see our democracy again. It has been lost now for some time. It gradually got away from us when we weren't looking hard enough, and now for us to get it back we have to take a very strong stand.

This means standing up and screaming, yes, screaming, no, to Diebold! You know how to scream, and I love you for it.

The tide has turned. Americans have realized the media is running the show and lying. The stronger you stand, the stronger the Party becomes.

No to Diebold!

I admire you tremendously. Don't let the naysayers get under your skin. You have so much support, more than you will ever know.

Ellen McGuffie

33. Kick for those who haven't seen this.
Those of you with Dem Senators or Representatives need to get on their cases too. Refer to the recent results of San Diego's parallel election, and recommend this as a strategy to be pursued in a non-partisan way if possible, and by Dems if not.
