Clark Wins Inital N.H. Primary Votes
By STEPHEN FROTHINGHAM, Associated Press Writer

DIXVILLE NOTCH, N.H. - Wesley Clark (news - web sites) won the initial votes cast Tuesday morning in New Hampshire's Democratic presidential primary, the first be counted in a state primary this year.

Clark had been the only major candidate to visit two of the state's smallest hamlets — Dixville Notch and Hart's Location — where residents cast and count their votes in the early minutes of Election Day.

Clark won Dixville with 8 votes. Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) had 3, Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) 2 and Howard Dean (news - web sites) and Sen. Joe Lieberman (news - web sites) 1 each. Clark received 6 votes in Hart's Location. Kerry had 5, Dean 3 and Edwards 2.

Clark was on hand in Dixville at the Balsam's hotel as the ballots were counted minutes after midnight.

20. Aw, CV, can't we have a little fun without somebody raining on our
parade?

Tomorrow this will be the big story all over New Hampshire.

Who knows? Maybe some of those "independent" types will see how sick this makes the media that's been pestering them for months and join in.

Stranger things have happened.

I'll bet you money that Dean and Kerry headquarters are already having conference calls to find a way to stem the Clark tide.

Strange days indeed.

Yes we take it deadly serious. In the history of history nothing has ever been more important than the election results of Dixville New Hampshire. The future of all mammals on the face of the planet lay in the hands of the good people of that tiny hamlet. Great are those wise persons who have saved the earth today.

All hail Dixville.:bounce:

Oh, good god!, let it go. It's 14 votes!

Who knows why they chose Clark? The population is too small to sample, so give each of them a call in the morning.

It's statistically insignificant, but it just feels good (as a Clark believer and supporter) to see him get this one moral victory -- especially in light of the negative and absent press he's been getting. The press will have a hard time in the morning avoiding at least mentioning Clark's mini-wins tonight, though I look forward to hearing how they can negatively spin it.

Let us enjoy the moment. Tomorrow's another day.

(And I *STILL* won't be sad if Clark gets 4th in New Hampshire. His big test will be next week, all week.)

37. so what if independents
like clark? They shouldn't be voting in the DEMOCRATIC primary in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire or any of the other states where they're allowed to vote.

The primaries are supposed to be for the PARTIES to select their nominees. It isn't supposed to be the general election, for god's sake.

That's the price you pay by not joining a party ... you shouldn't be able to say who the nominee of that party is.

Should board members of Coca-Cola be able to vote for the chairman of Pepsi-Cola? I think NOT! If the independents want to vote in a primary, have them choose an "independent" candidate to run ... have their own little convention in Idaho or something. But stay out of OUR primary!

I do think it's dangerous ... independents in the 20 or so states where independents can vote in primaries will get an inordinate amount of power. The Fundies can register in massive numbers as Independents, and then vote in OUR primary for the Democrat they think is easiest to beat. With independents being allowed to vote, Al Sharpton could conceivably be the nominee!!!

New Hampshire should change the damned rules up there.

I'm Proud to be a Democrat, and when I cast my vote in my state's DEMOCRATS-ONLY primary, it'll really MEAN something!!!!!!

49. There are no registered Democrats in Dixville Notch, NH
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 10:07 AM by Tinoire
Celebrate the win but be honest about who gave it to you.

===
Dixville Notch, NH, population 33, always votes at midnight. They are known for being the first in the nation primary voters. Also, there are no registered Democrats -- only independents and republicans.

Here are the results in the Dixville Notch Democratic Primary:

Wesley Clark = 8
John Kerry = 3
John Edwards = 2
Howard Dean = 1
Joe Lieberman = 1

Also, Hart's Location, NH (30 registered voters) just reported in (the second midnight location) with a Clark win, as well!

Go Clark!!!

(Don't know how the REST of the day will go, so GET OUT THE VOTE is STILL VITAL. But you might just want to mention the above when you make your E-Block calls, since those INDEPENDENTS, in the rest of the country, are who we need to actually win in November!!!!)

It is a strong argument for Clark's appeal to independants and rebuplican crossovers.

And I'm crossing my fingers that it also means a good showing for Wes overall, but I won't jinx it!
