Arlen Specter just changed his CAFTA vote from Yes to No on Senate
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 08:37 AM by KoKo01
Floor. The Senate was about to start hearings on Stem Cell Research and Specter got up and made an announcement he was changing his vote.

What's up with that? It's too late to do any good. And he just got re-elected so he doesn't have to worry about his vote Yes the first time counting against him.

1. He's really POed about the stem cell bill not coming to a vote
I think he and Frist are going to go at it big time.

2. Specter represents a blue state
Perhaps his constituents registered their high displeasure with his original Yes vote, so he decided it might be politically wise to change it to No.

3. Specter is the idiot who voted present on impeachment trial
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 08:35 AM by Hokie
He just could not bring himself to say Clinton was "not guilty" even though he knew the entire impeachment was a farce.

4. Maybe Arlen's got a conscience after all?
If you have seen him lately, you know he might not be in this world much longer. Maybe he'll come clean on the Warren Commission coverup next?

It would make a difference if others did the same.
I'm still stunned about the Dems who voted for this axe to the people.

Damn!!!

5. Is there rule in the Sentate that allows his to change his vote?
I'd wouldn't think so, but there are so many little rules and objections to ruls, it can get confusing.

11. I've seen others do it in the past but,...
,...have no idea whether it changes the outcome.

I really want to know whether he can do this and whether it will change the outcome.

6. That vote is closed in the Senate. I don't think he can do that.
I heard Frist this morning, and he's recommending expanding the setm cell research, so something else must be going on.

9. I thought it might mean something else is up. It was bizarre. Why do it?
It would be nice if our 12 Dems who voted for it in the House would come forward and change their vote. It wouldn't matter in the passage because the vote is closed but it would make a statement. Better yet if Repuglican Charles Taylor would come out and explain why he lied when he said he voted No when he voted Yes and another Repug like Robin Hayes would tell how he was strongarmed and intimidated into voting Yes when he told his constituents he would vote No.

In my dreams....ugh.

13. Uh, 217-215 was the HOUSE vote. Specter is a SENATOR.
The bill has already been sent to the president for signing. It's a done deal.

19. Looks Like 11 Dem Traitors Voted For CAFTA, And 12 Repugs Voted No
So, I view that as more Repugs willing to cross party lines (very unusual) than Dems. What do you make of it?
