Centrist Dems Urge Military Enlargement

July 24,2005 | COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Centrists who contend Democrats cannot retake the White House until voters trust the party to protect them said Sunday the Army should expand by 100,000 soldiers and that colleges should open their campuses to military recruiters.

"A Democrat has to show the toughness to govern," said Al From, founder of the Democratic Leadership Council. "People don't doubt that Republicans will be tough."

From argued that national security and safety are threshold issues for swing voters who increasingly are trending Republican.

"We're using the National Guard as a backdoor draft," he said.

Instead of getting mad at the party who controls all branches of government and has fucked the country up so much that we've GOTTEN to the point of having to use the National Guard as a backdoor draft, and GOTTEN to the point of having a recruitment crisis because soldiers are dying at a rate of at least 1-2 a day, he criticizes the Democrats who have no national power. Over anything. Anywhere. At all.

Yeah, Al. Just snap your fucking fingers and 100,000 soldiers will appear all because those poor naive college students don't know about a military career and allowing recruiters on campus will open their eyes to a whole world they didn't know existed.

that like Dubya Bush, he`s a great uniter, not a divider. Why doesn`t he just repeat it again? "People don`t doubt that Republicans will be tough." Really? That`s what he calls it? Dropping bombs on civilians, hiring torture planes and invading a country that had NOTHING to do with September 11th is called tough? I call them criminals.

If From would have phrased this to include that recruiters should go after college Republicans who support the war, but are too chicken to join up, I'd be laughing.

However, he seems to think that the only way for the Democrats to gain the trust of the people to protect them is to allow the military to recruit their kids. What a dope.

How 'bout they start supporting candidates who would make decisions that were best for the PEOPLE of this country instead of lining the pockets of the CORPORATIONS and candidates who will speak to the military industrial complex and ways in which to circumvent it instead of supporting folks who are beholding to it.

That would go a lot further than sending recruiters out there to kill our kids.
