I don’t understand all of the fuzz about Karl Rove’s admission that he disclosed to Washington Post reporter Matt Cooper that Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, was a CIA agent. I don’t know why Ambassador Wilson went to Africa to find out if Saddam Hussein had procured yellow cake uranium from Niger. President Bush had already told the American people in the State of the Union address that Iraq had indeed obtained nuclear materials from Niger. So why did Ambassador Wilson say upon his return from Africa that there was no evidence that Iraq had even attempted to get yellow cake uranium? Was Wilson implying that Bush was less than truthful in his speech to Congress? Did Bush lie? Did America go to war in Iraq on account of a lie?
If one believes that President Bush has a special anointment from the Almighty to run this country, then no amount of evidence that Bush lied to plunge our nation into the Iraq quagmire will change anyone’s mind. If on the other hand, one thinks that the Bush Administration has never told the truth about Iraq, and that nearly 1,800 American soldiers have died on account of a lie, then the Karl Rove matter is no different from what the Nixon Administration did to discredit its critics. Is impeachment far behind?
How far into the Oval Office will the Plame leak conspiracy lead?
