General Clark Brought Honor to His Country. Kerry was In His Corner .
General Clark was widely perceived in Europe and around the world as doing the best he could to direct a just and honorable multinational military operation. John Kerry was one of the Senators who supported Clark's actions.

His effective action in Bosnia and later in Kosovo brought respect to his country in Europe as well as in parts of the Islamic world.

He received numerous honors, medals and commendations for his service including honorary Knighthoods from the British and Dutch governments, commander of the French Legion of Honor. In August 2000, President Clinton awarded General Clark with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.

I did not take bullets for my country. I did not have to bear the burden of leading a war. I would not criticize the General that better men have chosen to honor.

1. Kerry Bought Into The LIE That Clark Dissed Kerry's Rank
on 60 minutes.

Kerry has devoted a page on his website maligning Clark.

Sanctimonious politicians who trash others make me sick.

3. He praised the general today on Face the Nation
Said he had talked to Gen. Clark about the controversy. Says the campaign shouldn't be fought on that ground.

4. one sentence
Clark made a disrespectful comment. He did it. Kerry made a ONE sentence response. I could care less what Clark said, let the voters decide. Why do Clark's supporters have such a need to blow ONE sentence into so much more than the ONE sentence Clark gave?

8. Disrespectful to call him lieutenant? kerry said Clark is only used to
take orders and had no field experiance in war - I didn't hear Clark whining about it. I had enough of robbers calling thief! kerry stood beaming in Iowa over a veteran spoting Shelton smears. Clark, OTOH, had nothing but praise for Kerry - even distancing himself drom a veteran supporter comparing the two.

11. He said Kerry never negotiated treaties
That's a horrible terrible thing to say. That's it, I'll never vote for Clark now.

In retrospect, I think I know what you're talking about on the Shelton thing. And in thinking of the two situations, Kerry was right again. Clark actually embarrassed somebody in public. Kerry undoubtedly told his supporter in private that we try not to make public smears. And again, it's because Kerry isn't a General that he hasn't lost that kind of consideration for the regular guy.

...none of this unfortunate stuff would have happened.

2. Politcians
Really quite a shame that Kerry feels he has to do this to get the nod. Those Viet Nam medals he threw out in protest were not even his. Kerry's medals are in his Senate office. Oh! My country!

10. Would you care to show me where Kerry ever said he threw his medals
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 05:08 PM by Kerryfan
over the fence? He said he threw his ribbons and someone else gave him their medals to throw and that is what he did and that is what he said he did.

Guess you're just comparing him to the Breck Girl--who's pretty hard for a Southerner like me to even listen to.

14. Please don't play into the Republicans hands
Both Clark and Kerry are good candidates and honorable men. Anyone who watched Bob Dole bait Wes Clark KNOWS that Clark didn't make those remarks with the intent to dishonor Kerry. Bob Dole blindsided Clark pure and simple.

Please don't descend to this divisiveness. Clark and Kerry have both repeatedly given each other credit and respect for their repsective service to this country. I know that if either man wins the nomination he is going to need the other's and all our support. What is the goal here? Defeating George Bush isn't it. Don't let Bob Dole defeat us with one mean-spirited remark.

...in elementary schools and hospitals, per his endorser: Michael Moore. Bombing innocents isn't a good thing- even when it's done by Democrats.

17. Bombed civilians and innocents...
Can't verify, qualify or quantify your claims, but will comment that civilians and innocents were killed in Afghanistan, as well. Me, I'm anti-war, but I believe there are cases when war is necessary.

21. Clark lost a strong supporter because of his 4-star general statement
I have an uncle who served in Viet Nam who was getting a little anxious about Clark before the 4-star general statement and he decided to drop his support for Clark and go with Kerry instead.

He had served three tours in Viet Nam as a Green Beret and had headed up a Clark grassroots group in Florida. He was initially troubled by Clark's feelings about wanting to have a Flag amendment, but the statement Clark made about rank being more of a factor with military experience took him over the edge.

28. The view from Europe (posted on our blog):
As to Wes Clark here, its a matter of people mainly knowing and supporting Michael Moore. So when they saw Mike found a presidential candidate he likes and trusts, Europe went 'wheeeeee!' and roots for Wes. Its quite funny, but there are people here in Germany that dont know how the US system works, dont know any other candidates, dont know who anyone but Bush, Rumsfeld and Powell are, but are suporting Wes Clark as if he could single-handedly save the world.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, most people in the US dont realise how important Michale Moore is over here. His endorsement has given Wes Clark unbelievable support in Europe, and if you are looking for a president who can repair the relationships with the people of Germany, France, italy, spain, UK and so on, Wes can do it.
