College Republicans refuse milirary recruitment ad in convention program
From Operation Yellow Elephant
Tuesday, June 21, 2005

Special Op "Adbusters"
http://patriotboy.blogspot.com/

Col. Crooks and Liars attempted to assist our nation's military recruiting efforts by placing a full page ad in the Official Program of the Young Republican National Convention. Unfortunately, the Young Republican leadership felt that such an appeal would, as the kids say, "put a harsh on their buzz."

From their email:

We are sorry but we must regretfully reject this advertisement. We feel that the tone of the message is too negative.

The ad:

4. Please clear something up for me
Was this a REAL ad from the REAL Army or was it someone else trying to place the ad to make a point?

I see no Registered Trademark / Copyright / etc on the ad or even a link to a website.

I don't mind the idea of such an ad being "freeped" but I think it would help to know if this is a legitimate advertisement or what.

12. It was written by Operation Yellow Elephant
And I agree with a previous poster that they should try to post a real ad from the real Army instead.

Excellent Salon column here:

A nice retort to the chickenhawks over at Powerline here:

And then, predictably, a whining little missive from another chickenhawk blogger and devotee of Powerline here:

10. The tone is a little too harsh?
It's nowhere near as harsh as one tour of duty in Iraq let alone three or four that some of our troops are facing.

It's nowhere near as harsh as being called back into the military after you've served your time and been discharged or having your service extended indefinitely by a stop loss order.

I know we aren't suppose to threaten violence but I would just love to put a gun in these little creeps backs and make them go. That's about the only way these chicken shit bastards would go. They disgust me.

13. Then again, do we really want those morans learning how to kill?
That's just what we need: A whole generation of pissed-off Rethugnicans coming back from a war armed and dangerous.

15. I agree
What's harsh about asking young Republicans who support the war to go fight it? Only a rightwinger would come up with that kind of logic!

I think it's best to just get real recruitment forms from the various branches of the military, and pass them out to young Republican war supporters, or their parents. This will save them the time to go find them, themselves. Why, if there are so many supporters of this war, is there such a shortage of manpower to fight in it?

I remember two years ago, on Hardball, they went around to colleges discussing the war. Most of the Republicans were completely supportive of it. But Chris Matthews was stunned when he discovered that at the end of each session, when he asked who would sign up to go fight in the war, there were hardly any volunteers.

I don't know why he was so surprised. In one such college town hall meeting, they used Bush's nephew to try to get students to enlist. It was amazing that it never occurred to him that some of the students would be smart enough to ask him why HE wasn't enlisting. Of course they did, and he was practically speechless.

Hypocrites, all of them and they should be all be exposed for what they are. I am sick of them calling anyone who doesn't support this war, traitors. The ultimate support they can give, especially now with recruitment so low, is to go put their bodies where their mouths are. And can we call them traitors if they don't show their support? Imo, yes, by their own logic.
