Is Dean dropping out? (Admins: Please delete this thread)
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 02:59 PM by zulchzulu
My original message:

"A friend of mine just left a message saying that Dean said he would drop out if he doesn't win New Hampshire.

Wow."

Upon looking at my message and seeing the reaction, I feel I was a bit too hasty to find out if such a story was true. It may be or may not be. I haven't been able to get back in touch with the person who left me the message to verify....

If this message offended anyone, please accept my apologies. Since it seemed like it was a very important breaking story, I thought perhaps others had just found out about it too.

10. Hmmmmmm
8. If you make a factual assertion about a candidate that is not generally accepted to be true, you must provide a link to a reputable source to back up your claim. Allegedly "innocent" questions which are actually an underhanded effort to spread rumors are not allowed. If you really need to know the answer to your question, try Google.

Maybe Zulchzulu should have googled this?

4. Hell no...
The Dean campaign is a movement in itself. And, anyone who thinks that Kerry's gonna have an easy ride through the South is sadly mistaken. Kerry's going to have the most trouble out of everyone (except maybe DK) in the South.

7. "A friend of mine"?
Hmm, that is certainly a iron-clad source.

Let me suggest that you provide a little more documentation for your assertion. Otherwise, you're going to get flamed.

And, I'm not even a Dean supporter.

Dean won't leave the race after NH, even if Sharpton beats him. :)

8. No he will not drop out. He qand Kerry are the only two that have not take
matching government funds that ties them down to spending only $45 million on this campaign.

11. No, I don't think he'll drop out then.
He's too stubborn. NH would be a disappointment, but his appeal is more national than other campaigns.

20. Debatable
> He's too stubborn. NH would be a disappointment,

Dean's appeal is arguably not more "national" than Clark or Edwards; and it's debatable whether he's more nationally acceptable than Kerry, given their similar backgrounds and Kerry's military experience.

I agree that it's silly to think that Dean would drop out if his results in NH are below "expectations" -- whatever those are deemed to be by the SCLM. He's got the cash to run a marathon, and he'll stick with it until his coffers are drained.

Even if Dean falls markedly behind in delegates, however unlikely, we *NEED* Dean to stick in this campaign as long as he can afford to. If it weren't for him, Kerry would still be a milquetoast candidate, and Clark may not have entered the race. I, for one, am extremely grateful to the other "fringe" candidates, as well, for bringing important, oft-ignored issues into the campaign.

15. Dean answered this same question himself on TV yesterday or day before...
He was asked if he came in a 'very distant second' or third in NH, would he drop out, and the interviewer also asked if he had the financing to continue past NH. He said he will be in South Carolina, period, and financing is doing fine. The interviewer really ticked me off because she was implying that for DEAN, 'coming in a distant second' means LOSING....but you know for Edwards, well he's just getting started. The press will do whatever they can to kill Dean. Right wing is afraid of him. So they ignore his issues, knock his enthusiasm, and now it seems don't want to give air time at all. Consider who the press has supported over the past few years.... then do whatever it is the press doesn't want you to do!

If the story is unfounded, my apologies... I'll make sure to tell my friend not to do that sort of thing.

With the way this race is going, who knows what's going to happen next.

but not if he finishes second, especially a strong second like Clinton.

19. At this point
I think that third might be a tad optimistic. I think that he'll finish fourth ... and only because Lieberman is not doing very well. He won't finish within 20 points of Kerry.
