Ollie North to Al Sharpton: Vicente Fox comments true, not offensive
(North sitting in for Hannity on "Hannity & Colmes")

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157895,00.html

NORTH: You have to help me here. I was in Iraq at the time. The statement, as I read it, and I didn't hear it, but I read it, the statement as I read it, is true.

SHARPTON: Why is it true?

NORTH: Well, because Mexicans are, as this morning's Washington Post (search) points out, taking jobs all over America that neither whites nor blacks nor yellows or greens or reds will do.

SHARPTON: But that's not what he said. What he said is they're doing jobs that "even blacks won't do," as if blacks are some measure of the lowest peons in this country.

NORTH: Wouldn't that make Mexicans even lower than that?

2. This is shameful. Truly:
"SHARPTON: But that's not what he said. What he said is they're doing jobs that "even blacks won't do," as if blacks are some measure of the lowest peons in this country.

NORTH: Wouldn't that make Mexicans even lower than that?"

The sad part about it is these Extremist Neo-Con idiots don't even recognize their own bigotry and xenophobia. Or, if they do, have absolutely no resmorse at all for having such feelings. What a disgusting display of the "White is Right" attitude of that Party at the moment. After reading that, I feel like I need a shower.

the fact that he is a typical right-wing racist. It is so sad to witness the demise of the stupid white men; they can't even be convicted felons with dignity anymore. Rev. Al may be a lot of things but inarticulate, stupid and shrinking from debate he is not. He left that to D-uhblyoo. You go, Al!

for the same reason Bob Novak isn't: They are Republican.

They got Clinton impeached for lying about sex, and this President has lied about a war where thousands and thousands of Americans have died or been maimed, and nada.

It's the old Republican double-standard. I'm sick of it.

6. Gotta admire Ollie though
He has proven that a felony conviction is not a bar to finding fame and fortune. Obviously being a proven liar does not prevent one from working for Faux news.

10. Oliver North is an asshat and a wannabe dictator.
North lied to congress, broke the law, disobeyed the Constitution, sold weapons to enemies of the United States and supported terrorists in Central America. He is a first-rate hypocrite: A shining example of everything the Republican party stands for.

12. Because he was let off on a technicality courtesy of....
Republican Federalist Society judges---

http://www.consortiumnews.com/1990s/consor34.html

-a snippet-

"At a D.C. circuit conference, he had gotten into a shouting match about independent counsel with Judge George MacKinnon," Walsh wrote. "Silberman not only had hostile views but seemed to hold them in anger."

To Walsh's dismay, Silberman and another conservative judge, David Sentelle, were two of the three judges to hear the appeal of North's conviction.

A North Carolina protege of Sen. Jesse Helms, Sentelle was not as obstreperous as Silberman. But Sentelle carried with him a pugnacious pride in his Republican conservatism.

Sentelle had served as chairman of the Mecklenburg County Republican Party and had been a Reagan delegate at the 1984 GOP convention. He named his daughter, Reagan, after the president.

Though normally law-and-order judges, Silberman and Sentelle overturned North's conviction by expanding the protections that a witness receives from a grant of limited immunity.

14. the really lousy part is that Fox is right.
undocumented workers take the lowest paying jobs using "temporary" taxpayer i.d. numbers (so Uncle Sam can get his cut, no questions asked) and fake SS numbers (so they'll never get the benefits they pay for, ditto), get harassed by INS (to please the foaming Birchers), and if they start earning too much, their employers "discover" problems in their documentation. Bye-bye.

Basically they're our new slave class.

15. North probably salivated at the chance to say this to Sharpton
on national TV on Fox. He probably smiled all day just thinking about it and glowed after the show.

17. So...
Edited on Sun May-29-05 09:59 AM by Totally Committed
why can't they be true and offensive? The African-Americans in this country are here, for the most part, because their ancestors were dragged here against their wills. They were treated shamefully, and are still treated shamefully even today.

I don't care if what Fox and North said was true or not, but it is offensive, and we all owe it to ourselves, and to our African American brothers and sisters -- who, by the way, are the backbone of the Democratic Party -- to say that out loud. If it were not for the bravery of John Conyers and the Congressional Black Caucus, there would be very few visible Democratic spines in Washington today!

18. You miss the point of Fox's comment
Edited on Sun May-29-05 02:42 PM by Gman
Fox said in no uncertain terms that AA's are not worth any more than the lowest of the lowest jobs. Then he positioned the immigrants below the AA's in a manner that, at the same time, said that the immigrants have a much higher work ethic than AA's because they will do the lowest of the lowest work thereby implying directly that AA's have the lowest of the lowest worth.

So when you even begin to try to consider whether or not Fox's statement is true or not, you buy into the worthless AA assertion that Fox is making.

Although I'm not Mexican Hispanic or African American, I was born and raised in daily contact and interaction with the Mexican Hispanic culture of South Texas. I lived until I was 14 as the only white boy in a completely Mexican Hispanic part of town. I'm here to tell you that while there are a lot of white folks that hate blacks, there are a hell of a lot more Mexican Hispanics that hate Blacks with an even higher passion. By no means whatsoever am I saying all Mexican Hispanics. I am only saying there is a significant portion of Mexican Hispanics that hate Blacks more than the white folks that hate Blacks. I never have understood why. But, I think its because Mexicans in general have been discriminated against as badly as AA's were and for just as long. Being poorly educated and ignorance play just as big a part in this as it does with whites. I have heard words like mallate and chongol used in a laughing manner about AA's. But there are also educated Mexican Hispanics that are just as racist. In fact I wonder if it is something of a little spoken about cultural thing. This is where I see Fox and I am calling him out on it.

There will be a lot of people that read this that will scoff and even say what I'm saying is racist. There will be other enlightened Mexican Hispanics that will also say what I say is completely true. I know for a fact from my African American friends that live here within the predominantly Mexican culture that this is very true. I know because I've had way too many conversations with my Mexican Hispanic and AA friends about this. In fact the AA's will tell you that Mexican Hispanics are far worse than whites.

So I don't think you know what you're talking about and that you are treading very thin ice to even consider whether or not Fox's remarks are true or not.
