Are Republican moderates worth a damn
that is the question this filibuster drama will answer once and for all. If 6 of them defect to our side on the nuclear option, then maybe, just maybe, there is a moderate wing to the Republican party. If not, then we know that the whole party is one big right wing show. It is that simple.

1. I think we'll get 6 or more
but I still don't think they are worth a damn.

2. I honestly have my doubts
but equally honestly have no clue. I would like to think that six of them could see the folly of destroying the Senate but I also would have thought that 51 Senators would have seen the folly of the estate tax removal, the bancrupcy bill, and a host of other things.

7. If There Really Were Any Republican Moderates
Then why are all the negotiations about us having to bend over for
Owens and Brown and all the rest of W's far-right-wing judicial nominees,
just so they will vote against the nuclear option this time?

3. "Republican Moderates???" A non-sequitor
Oh, maybe the occasional Olympia Snowe, but the Rockefeller, Ford, moderates are long gone. Like Supreme Court moderates. They are now considered the hard left, like Ford appointee John Paul Stevens. We sink ever further into the abyss.

4. There is no such thing as a moderate republican! The facists
just make them look not quite so bad.

8. Obviously, if they go nuclear, they blow themselves up.
Well, shucks guys, I'd really like to have filibustered Justice Sekulow, but golly, we don't have a filibuster any more.

There are conservative republicans who occasionally put policy and the welfare of the Republic ahead of their party, but really no moderates to speak of on the national level, at least none that are still in the party. Compare Chaffee to Frist, and you'll see a difference. Compare him to his father, you'll see a bigger difference.
