HPV vaccine will prevent cervical cancer, unless RW fundies can stop it
the Family Research Council is going to launch a campaign against the HPV vaccines being developed by Glaxo and Merck, because goshdernit, it may lead to more s-e-x!!!!!

http://www.newscientist.com/channel/sex/mg18624954.500

Of course, it may save lives, but what good are those lives if they're the evil ones having all that nasty s-e-x!!!!!

Now, imagine that these legalistic "christian" pharisees get their way and there is no HPV vaccine for the next, oh say, 50 years; How many millions of women worldwide will die a senseless, gruesome death by cervical cancer? Will these pharisees be at the bedsides of these women as they suffer thru surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and death? Will they pay for the health care costs?

clip:
"In the US, for instance, religious groups are gearing up to oppose vaccination, despite a survey showing 80 per cent of parents favour vaccinating their daughters. "Abstinence is the best way to prevent HPV," says Bridget Maher of the Family Research Council, a leading Christian lobby group that has made much of the fact that, because it can spread by skin contact, condoms are not as effective against HPV as they are against other viruses such as HIV.

"Giving the HPV vaccine to young women could be potentially harmful, because they may see it as a licence to engage in premarital sex," Maher claims..."

I wonder when the Family Research Council will get around to reading the Gospels of Jesus Christ and the rest of the New Testament....

2. It would be nice to think some girl whose 15 now, will not end up with
a higher risk of cancer like I have. But I guess the FRC just thinks it should be our punishment.

You know what is so stupid about this. HPV is the most prevalent disease for women. Almost everyone I know has had it. The risk of getting it, has not stopped people from having sex in the past and making it continue to be a risk will not stop people in the future. Maybe it will bring down the cost of health care though. If you all only knew how many women have to have surgeries for this problem at a young age.

4. They are saying it can also be given to men, to prevent them from ...
spreading the virus! This is a wonderful breakthrough! I'm amazed at the potential for our daughters & grand daughters, we do live in the most amazing times. I swear, if the fundies try to put the kibbosh on this vaccine - it's friggin' WAR! Full out, no holds barred, bloody war - they have NO RIGHT to keep this from our children!

Makes me wanna go smack somebody up the side of their head!

9. Fluoride and dental sealants....
Guess that those other 'communist' plots need to be stopped, too.

Cannot have kids thinking they can eat all the twinkies and drinknig all the Coke they want just because fluoride and sealants preserve their teeth against cavities.....

Same thing for chickepox vaccine. No chicken pox, not shingles later in life! Can't allow that!

"Hands-off government", unless you wnt to force someone else to do what you believe.... Schiavo, abstinence, etc.

3. it's outrageous
My only hope is that middle-America sees how the wackos have taken over the Republican Party and reject them for many years to come.

5. poetic justice
Okay, this is cruel, but isn't it ironic to know that girls/women from conservative or evangelical families will eventually end up with higher rates of HPV than girls/women from more enlightened families?

That is, if the vaccine is ever released in the U.S.

12. no because they'll take the medicine, just like they'll take the
welfare and other benefits bestowed on them by an enlightened society even as they are trying to destroy it.
fuck, if these people lived their "convictions" and opted out of shit they dissaprove of, we'd have a budget surplus.

10. Yeah, a coalition of fundies and drug companies will block...

...any cure that isn't palliative.

No cures please. Just expensive treatments that you have to take for a long time.

The fundies want you to suffer for your sins. The drug companies just want you to pay for them. I mean, literally. They want you to buy their treatments for the rest of your life.
