God Bless the Freepers, each and every one.
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 05:03 PM by Wife_of_a_Wes_Freak
I just had an amazing (well, okay for ME) revelation on the drive home. For the first several hours after last night's debate, I was feeling pretty badly about the way Clark was taking the media hits. Then, as it finally sunk it, I began to feel VERY badly about the way all our Dems have been slammed in every direction by the media. THEN it occurred to me...

Did Bush EVER take this much heat during his run for the big house? I mean, the media loves a freeper, no? Yet here are our boys, dodging blows, and volleying insults from moderators, reporters and the like... and the phrase, "refined by fire" came to mind.

Listen, my favoritism set aside, ANY OF OUR GUYS are going to beat the living pulp out of Bush the Lesser, because they are getting what Bush never got (aside from a brain at birth). EXPERIENCE! The media won't turn on Bush (God forbid), but these boys, our dems in action are going to be so seasoned by the senseless twists and ploys of the right-wing media, that NOTHING Rove throws at them will be "new." Not only will our boys will have a response for everything, but by the time the media is done dissecting them, there will be NOTHING left for KKKarl to "uncover." Nothing left for KKKarl to "reveal." Bush will shrivel - of that I have NO doubt.

In their attempt to burn the Dems, they've burned the Bush. God bless the Freepers, each and EVERY one of them!

United we stand, divided we fall. Back those donkeys, one and all. (Okay, so I have a cheerleader's soul...sue me.)

I mean, despite running against the lame-ass Gore campaign he STILL lost.

5. I do remember some scrutiny of Bush
Back in 2000. The Vanity Fair article about him prior to election about how all he ever wanted to be was Baseball Commissioner still sticks out in my mind. Does anyone remember that article? It explains a lot and is worth a lookup in the library if you have the time.

6. You are the best advocate on this board for Clark and unity
If only your colleagues here would follow your shining example.

I shall not join in any Gore-ing of Clark, as so many did at the beginning of the week against my candidate.

I recall that many of us tried to make these arguments months ago when the "Stop Dean Movement" came to these forums.

But not only did our warnings fall on deaf ears, we were literally driven underground on this very board.

So pardon me if I feel just a little bit vindicated, and a little less than sympathetic--not to you, dear lady, beloved for your voice of sanity--but for some of your less than supportive colleagues.

We warned you.

30. Thanks--actually my post was a bit too pissy...
Clark is being slimed by the puke media, not as much as Dean, but enough to piss me off.

BUSH IS A DESERTER.

And Moore has the right to say it.

And Clark does NOT have to denounce or agree with it--this is gotcha bullshit at its worst.

Dea is NOT a lunatic, and there was NOTHING WRONG with the "Speech."

I wish to HELL that some national figures like Gore and Clinton and Carter would come out and denounce ALL of it--testify to the TRUTH and speak loudly to defend ALL of the candidates from this puke bullshit.

There, I have said my piece.

7. I agree, but what worries me
Is that the media will ALWAYS spin things in favor of their annointed one (Bush.)

During the debates, it was ABSOLUTELY CLEAR Gore won, but the media kept pumping out disinformation like "Bush won last nights debate" when, in reality, he came out sounding dumber than a monkey on a short bus.

So I worry the Dem candidate will run circles around Bush, and the puppydog press will say "My Bush was Presidential! "

Maybe Im ingorant or not paying attention but I dont see it. Please explain how there is an effort to bash candidates.

11. You're kidding, right?
Did you watch the NH debate last night? Hit after hit after hit after hit. How about Drudge? Dean Scream? Baby-eater? Republican? Corporate Whore? Gnome? Are any of these ringing a bell?

If not, then I applaud you, as you have managed to keep the sludge of the right-wing media from inflitrating your world.

13. no im serious
specifically, how is the media "hitting" the candidates. Asking questions doesnt really qualify as a media hit, unless i missed something in the debate. If you have a specific example (im aware of brit humes remark) please point that out. (i think the transcript was posted here somewhere)

My point is, the media is going after the dirt. That is their job. Of course they will focus on the ugly, that is how they make money. That is nothing new and I dont think its any more prevalant now than in any other administration/campaign cycle. They had their fun with both Gore and Bush in '00.

You mentioned Drudge... right now, drudge is running, 3 less than favorable reports on the bush admin and 2 less than favorable candidate stories.

What am i missing? ( I know drudge is a wingnut, so he's not the best example). From ABC, CBS, NBC and the NYtimes, LAtimes and any other newspaper in a major city, please show me examples of how the candidates are being unfairly scrutinized.

I think there is a tendency to exaggerate the bashing because we are in the juicy part of the primary season. And, there is not much else going on in the world.

Of course they will nail Dean for his screeching, it sells! I just dont think its politically motivated.

14. We could be thin skinned, I'll admit
and knowing little of the partisan background of the head nuts in the media, I will step aside and allow my senior posters/political comrades at DU to provide proof of what so many of have seen - first the Dean supporters, and now the rest of us.

Would one incident that comes to mind for each candidate be a start?

Come on then all: Step up to bat.

but I dont see any political motivations behind it.

If chris mathews starts in on Dean's behavior, I attribute fault to dean, not the media.

That is even one of his nicknames--Screamer.

He is a cyncial hatchet man of the lowest sort--a swince, if you will...and he has been hitting Clark too, in case you haven't been watching.

Kerry is his flavor of the month right now--But you can bet he'll stab John in the back too at the first opportunity.

15. I suppose you could find...
more obscure and irrelevant slants somewhere, but i dont know where.

I am most concerned with the major news outlets. Where average americans get their news from. cnn, abc, nytimes etc. Id rather evaluate the stories for myself than rely on mediawhoresonline.com to do it for me.

19. Well, I'm suggesting this:
If you are blind to the slant the corporate media puts on the news, DailyHowler.com and mediawhoresonline.com are perfect places to look. They can demonstrate the concerted effort that went into undermining the Gore campaign in 2000--from the NYTimes to the WashPost to the LATimes and the major networks--and how those same media outlets undermined any thoughful investigation into the Iraq War and the administration's claims about "WMD" before we began the military action.

If you don't want to look at those places that dedicate themselves to the media--FAIR is also a good place to look--I'm sure you can swallow the corporate media hook, line, and sinker. I don't think sites that investigate and critique corporate media is "irrelevant," but necessary.

23. that is my point!
no flame intended but what separates mediawhores from fox news?

I think too many people here are as loyal, or blind, as the fox news crowd. Conspiracy everywhere, media is out to get us... I dont believe it. In fact, i think the media is on our side.

If you think about it this way, the gop would love to see Dean get the nomination. They think he is easily beatable. The media has been taking shots at Dean (his fault). The media, it could be argued, is working FOR us. They are working to get Dean out of the picture, and put a winner in the spotlight (kerry perhaps). Just a whacky thought, but its as valid as some the theories Ive heard here.

Rather than have you post all day, give me one example of how the media has unfairly criticized Kerry recently. Again, the major news outlets, not the zealots.
