I say no more "Senator", no more "Representative, from now on they . . .
are to be addressed as "Brother DeLay", "Brother Frist,"
"Sister "Harris", and on and on.

It was stated on the National News a few moments ago that many other Republicans that did not participate in Frist's and Dobson's little Revival last night were not very happy that their names were used to crawl the whole time this "REVIVAL" was being held. Shameless arrogance. I guess Frist felt all of his Republican friends felt as he did. Maybe they do; however, they are probably pissed regarding all the calls coming into their offices from both sides.

1. When I go to Sunday School, I expect discussion and prayer on books of the Bible, and studying of the Bible. I do not expect pamphlets to be handed out to tell me that if I am a true Christian, I should vote for the "Republican", or how Falwell so eloquently put it, that we should vote "Christian", don't pick any particular side, no left or right, no Republican or Democrat, but just Christian. Christian would include believing in pro-life, pro-family, pro-death penalty. I expect to be taught lessons from the New Testament and discuss what these teachings mean to me in Sunday School. As well as study the Bible. Then during the service, I expect the preacher to preach information regarding the Old as well as the New Testament, and to teach all of us who are present, lessons for us to use during our weekly trials and tribulations we face on a daily basis. I do not expect to be told "who" I should vote for. I do not expect to be told that Liberals are "evil." I do not expect to be told to get involved with my state or federal politicians and given a piece of paper with all of their names, phones, addresses, and faxes and emails. I do not expect my preacher to make fun of Democratic Organizations and groups such as NOW, which is the National Organization of Women, but the preacher calls them "The National Order of WITCHES!"

2. When I turn on Crossfire on CNN I know I will hear politics and debate and lies if Novak is on.

3. When I turn on the Angel Network, I expect to hear religious teachings and preaching that pertains to the New as well as the old Testament. Prayer and meditation is almost always offered. I do not want to hear a 30-minute infomercial trying to push the rights agenda, bring up the Conservatives beliefs, and President Bush's agenda being pushed down my throat. I did not think they were suppose to get involved in politics?

4. When I turn on Nick-AT-Night, I expect reruns of old shows that I grew up with.

Numbers 2 and number 4 are still accurate. I get what I expect when I turn these shows/channels on. Unfortunately, 1 and 3 are accurate as well. They are not suppose to be but they are (sad to say).

The Republicans changed the rules to accommodate Delay while he was under investigation. By doing so, there is no ethics committee. No one to investigate DeLay because he was the Chairman of the Ethics Committee. They also changed the rules without any Democrats present. It was all decided behind closed doors.

Now the Republicans want to change the rules regarding "filibusters" and the senate's right to decide on presidential nominees for judicial posts. The Dems say they will shut down the government before they let that happen. The Republicans have come up with a new term and tactic. They call it the "nuclear" option. (They should have picked a word that the president could at least pronounce correctly). Also, 2/3rds of the American People are agreeing with the Dems. So where are all these fundamentalists anyway? I think they are the few sitting on the committees in Washington and they all are a bunch of cowards.

None of these Republican Senators, Representatives, or even the President or VP will even open their mouths' in front of a crowd of people before the people are checked out and made sure they are Republican. That way on the boob tube it looks as if they and their views are always supported.

If any tax-exempt charity, during their fund raising, constantly spoke of current political debate instead of fund raising for their cause, they would lose their tax-exempt status in a heartbeat.

Falwell stated back before the Nov. election that he was not scared of the IRS or any of these "Liberal" groups threatening him. He stated that they did take his tax-exempt status away for 24 hours and that was it. That was his punishment for all of his preaching politics behind his pulpit.

I don't even go to church anymore. I now understand how the Muslim people feel to have their religion hijacked by a bunch of insane murderers. The Christianity I grew up with is not what I see in the churches now.

These Evangelical Preachers that are sticking to politics more than religion behind their pulpits should be held accountable and lose their tax-exempt status. They have a choice. When they are on their free time, they can say whatever they please as long as they are not getting paid with tax-deductable money. As far as in the church, this should be stopped now. If they continue to push their private political agenda during church hours, while a preacher is behind his pulpit, and when they have special "Revivals" like they did last night, I say it is time to take away their tax exemptions. Talk about paying off the deficit.

1. You mean, you don't take lessons in religion from
an obviously holy man like Tom Delay?

Or political guidance from a stalwart of democracy and justice like James Dobson?

Or let Bush teach you how to ride bikes or eat pretzels?

Hm...

9. No, but I do watch brother Falwell every week and he never fails to bring
up something that falls under "politics" not "religion." And to beat it all, it's always after the prayer and while they are collecting the tithes, whilst he is standing behind his pulpit. Of course, this past month he has not been doing much since his hospitalizations. They have been having guest speakers. Last week was the co-author of the Left Behind series (Tim ?). I didn't watch or listen or record it for later reference.

Delay has the Bush syndrome of grandiose narcissism with a God Syndrome. Who could possibly help that man. As far as Dobson, isn't he the guy who had protests against homosexuals and signs that read, "God Hates Fags?" I really do not know much about him. I guess it is time for me to do a little research. :patriot:

PS: I hate pretzels and . . . :boring:

3. Outstanding post!
You speak for me, too. These fundie "brothers" & "sisters" in Congress are going to hang themselves; let's hope it happens in the near future. From now on, it's "Brother Frist", "Brother DeLay", "Brother Santorum", "Sister Harris" when I speak about them.

Their hypocrisy is maddening.

4. An alternative would be to call them
"Probationary Employee of the People Frist" etc.

Remind them who they work for. OR we could refer to them by their corp. sponsors, rather than state, as in "The Gentleman from Citicorp has the floor".

6. What I heard from my Pir
(head of my Sufi Order) was that our Order does NOT get involved in religion. He has said that individuals may get involved in politics, but as individuals, NOT as representatives of our Order.

Then he told what it was like flying from Europe back to the US after 9/11. Realize my Pir wears Indian style clothing and wears a beard and has long hair. So of course he was singled out to be searched and questioned. He had just been to a retreat, and the inspectors took his literature; he had the impression they thought since he was Muslim he was teaching hatred and terror! He said he felt angry for a moment, but then realized this didn't help anything, and that by being calm and at peace something good would come of it all. Sure enough, one of the inspectors took the time to read his literature, which was about tolerance, peace, and ecumenism. He came to Pir and opened his heart, saying that some in his family were Christian, some were Muslim, and they were having troubles with each other. He thanked Pir for the insights he'd gathered from the literature, and talked with Pir for some time. Pir left the airport knowing that he had helped a fellow human being, which, he said, is the most anyone can hope of doing.

To my mind, a spiritual person talking of his experience without ego or self-serving language, is one to listen to.

15. He sounds like a very wise man
and you are fortunate to have him as your guide. My parish priest is just the same way - loving, humble, and generous. It is, to my mind, the path of the truly religious. Those who prefer to help people quietly, without expecting any reward, are truly the ones to listen to.

7. You speak for me, brother
I want my nearest Baptodome to pay as much property and income taxes as we do.

Maybe some of you Christo-Fascists want to argue with that.

Well, pull your own weight. Stop asking my elderly mom for money for Jesus and we can talk.

And I am a Christian, just for the record.

14. That will work too. I was just using those terms because suddenly
the Republican party has all become such good Christians, and in some of the Baptist churches as well as other denominations will refer to each other as brother or sister.

Douchebag works for me too though.
