Family seeks answers in soldier's death
I am having a difficult time coming up with a comment regarding this story. I am dumbfounded.

"PORTAGE, Ind. -- The family of a soldier who died in Iraq still has questions about his death but likely won't seek an independent autopsy on his remains.

<snip>

His father, Rick Sirko, of Portage in northwestern Indiana, said this week he had doubts about the military's report that his son died in his sleep.

Sirko's mother also seemed skeptical in a phone interview published Thursday in The Times of Munster. She said her son had lost 35 to 40 pounds since January, when he was deployed.

<snip>

"We are going to go ahead and trust the Army," he said.

1. It's the stepfather who's going to "trust the Army"...the soldier's father
on the other hand, is going to have an independent pathologist review the Army autopsy records. The father is the one with the doubts.

2. I did miss that it
was the step-father rather than the father who was the trusting one. But if this man was my son,
I can't see that having an independent pathologist review the Army's autopsy records would change
any nagging doubts I might have.

But then, maybe they believe everything their government tells them...

3. Dear God!
Why do some supporters of the war and/or Bush feel that to question the "facts" they've been given - especially when they don't add up - is to question the Almighty Bush? Such questioning seems to be unAmerican to these people.
I'm getting more and more freaked out that this worship of Bush at all costs comes secondary to the Constitution, and people who feel this way think if you criticize Bush you are criticizing America. Bush has become America in the flesh for his followers.
This goes against everything this country is based on. People who love their country enough to stand up and speak out when their country isn't living up to its founding ideals are now treated as terrorist-lovers, Blame-America-Firsters, and other labels that imply that questioning our government is treasonous.
I am very sorry for that mother's loss - Bush took her son to fight a fake war and now he's dead. But I cannot understand her willingness to trust the Army when there are so many examples over the years of coverups and lies. In fact she's looking a glaring one in the face - that our men and women were sent to "disarm" Saddam of all his chemical and biological weapons, not to mention his "planes" that could deliver poison to us here in the US. How many times were mushroom clouds invoked? If none of that is true, how can she decide to "go ahead and trust the army?"
