Am I the only one who thinks they all looked bad?
and I don't mean they had bad answers. I mean, I think the candidates all looked bad. It was like, the makeup or the lights or something. I hated Dean's shirt. He needs the Queer Eye guys bad. Clark's tie was horrible. Kerry and Kucinich looked like mummies...veeeeery old. I think Edwards might have been the only one that looked decent but they may have had an extra spotlight on that lip growth. Anyone? Bueller?

3. I think they all looked like distinguished gentlemen...
but I wouldn't put it past Fox to fuck up the lighting.

By the way, your comment on Edwards was tacky.

11. Under the circumstances, NO!
Actually they started looking pretty good about half way through the so-called debate. You see, the questioning was very skewed, attempting to make the candidates look bad, but they all caught on and told the panel they wouldn't play their game. The panel looked really bad by the end of the debate. And such media manipulation of such an important democratic process should be publicly sponsored not privately skewed.

They definitely had extra bright lights on them from the floor, which (from my limited theater experince) tends to show much more especially without makeup and with close camera shots.

Faux at its best...

As for the ties, a lot of off-the beat designs. No boring red here - Nonliberalman was wearing this bold stripped thing - it was pretty bad, I liked Edwards suddle yet classic tie.

Image is important my friend.

13. Oh yeah...Joe
He also looked mummified and that tie was horrible. I'm suprised Kerry is sticking with the pink. It looks good, just suprising, he always wears it.

22. yes, I wish they could all agree to take a day off
from campaigning--NO one is allowed to attend any events--and all check into a nice hotel, get a massage, and SLEEP.

Who freaking cares?

They could have been dressed up as gothic ballerina dancers and I would still vote for any of them over shrub.

12. Ask Richard Nixon if it matters....
The famous debate between him and JFK broke him as a candidate, NOT because of what he said, but because of how he looked -- sweaty, unshaven, and tired. Before the debate, when asked if he wanted make-up, JFK said no thanks, so Nixon did the same. But JFK was conning Nixon and went ahead and used it, knowing he would present a much better image than Nixon on camera.

Remember Al Gore's make-up during one of his first debates? When I saw it I was floored that anyone let him out on the stage looking like that -- it was so horrid my first thought was someone was TRYING to make him look bad.

This was a debate on FOX -- bad lightening and make-up may have been used as an election tool.

It worked for JFK.

16. My bad
I took your post out of context.

There has been so much garbage in the media about Clarke's sweater, Al Gore's wedding ring, this one's hair, that one's tie...

It gets pretty tiresome to hear after awhile. I thought you were jumping on a similar theme, here. No offense intended... I would prefer that we focus on the things that are really important.

7. Yes...
I agree, they pretty much all looked terrible.

The lighting was genuinely amatuerish (on purpose?) -- high school theatre crew could have lit that set better. And the make-up (I'm saying this as a professional) was just nasty -- I noticed Peter Jennings was even looking terrible.

It definitely was not the most flattering light. On top of that, they all looked exhausted.

18. My Rankings Of The Candidates Appearances...
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 01:24 PM by GR
Clark, very dapper and the tie looked great with the spread collar...

Dean, looked more dapper than usual, nice appearance and hair was improved....

Edwards, always looks good, tonight was no exception

Lieberman, same old Joe...good appearance...

Sharpton, worse than usual...ducktail seems to be growing larger...

Kucinich, worse than usual...hair was plastered straight down like he'd just gotten out of the shower and hadn't let it dry...

Kerry, worse than usual...eyes looked like "burnt holes in a blanket" maybe ill..want to know more about his health...

Incidentally, I support Dean...

20. I saw 7 very tired men on that stage.
But I also saw some very decent performances. Edwrads did VERY well, handing Brit Hume his head on his 'gotcha' questions, and depite being ill, I thought dr. Dean had the best line of the night, and managed to look 'presidential'. Kerry was OK, but I thought Clark bobbled a fw questions and, overall, propbably hurt himself more than helped.
