3. We're a very divided church right now.
Historically, Catholics have been Dems, but recently, many have moved to rethugs. It's terrifying. I use to teach at a Catholic school that turned out to be freeperish. I went back to public school. It was a very- extremly wealthy- private school. Hum.... wonder wny they were rethugs. Selfish, greedy rethugs who will then crow about all they do for the poor. Please.

6. Absolutely agree. OT- that "ratzinger fan club" site really confirms
why I don't want to see that guy become Pope- Repukes either get fawning profiles or links to their homepage, whereas Dems get prayers that they will follow their faith more closely in future. What a bunch of assholes. If these are the kinds of people Ratzinger attracts as Pope, a rather more tangible link between Catholicism and Republicanism may emerge.

8. Nice post, Sean Reynolds.
Only Republicans want you to believe the myth that to practice Catholicism, you must vote for the G.O.P. My favorite registrant in my voter registration crusade was a woman who, I mistakenly assumed was going to vote for Bush because she was wearing a gigantic crucifix and carrying a bible. After she had signed and dated her form, I asked casually if she had picked out a vote for president, to which she automatically responed, "I have four sons, so, I'm voting for Kerry. There has simply been too much war and death under this administration."
