7. And for our former visitor

During President Bush's first four years in office, the Senate confirmed 204 judicial nominees and withheld its consent to only 10 nominations, a confirmation rate of over 95%. Last year the federal court vacancy rate reached its lowest level in 15 years.

Since President George W. Bush took office, the U.S. Senate has confirmed 204 of his selections for federal district and appeals courts judgeships. Senate Democrats drew the line at 10 extremist nominees, using Senate rules, including the filibuster, to stop the nominees. By contrast, during President Clinton’s two terms, Republicans blocked more than 60 of his federal court nominees.

3. Orin Hatch - Hypocrite Of The Hour...
...so many he does deserve a bit of bashing. Plus it's fun!

Anyone remember Bill Lan Lee? Repugnicans sure don't. That's cause what happened to him is what they're bitching about...and they, and in specific, Hatch did it.

Sure, they didn't have to filibuster...when you have control of the Senate, you control the agenda. You decide when to hold hearings, when a nominee's name is brought up and how it's handled. Hatch was the master of bottling up a nominee for years by messing with the schedule. No need to filibuster...and this was done numerous times during the Clinton years.

The ugly side of this is Bunnypants can, and probably, will use recess appointments to get Pickering and others on the bench and go around the confirmation process...this game is just sure arrogance and a power play by Repugnicans who know they gotta get while the getting is good.

4. Honestly, I say let them end filibusters
Most of the Republicans I know, along with the more intelligent ones, like McCain and Dole, are saying that this will look bad for them and they will regret it soon. I can see us gaining seats in 2006 if they keep abusing their power.

6. Yeah, and when a SC vacancy comes, it's one vote closer to zapping
RvW. Maybe it can't be stopped, since it's likely that all of Bush's nominees will be wackjobs, but there's always a chance for a stealth liberal/moderate, like Souter.

5. the truth revealed
Its not that the Dems are using the filibuster to block a few chimpy nominations, is that they're more successful than the repubs were when they've tried it...

typical of the repubs "conservative" approach: follow the rules unless they don't work for you, and then change them so they do...
