Clark compares W to a rooster, attacks religious "wrong" (from DailyKos)
Edited on Sun Apr-17-05 12:04 AM by Clarkie1
Clark takes on W claiming credit for democracy in Middle East:

"GWB is like a rooster crowing trying to take credit for the sunrise."

(What other Democratic leader do we have who can take on Bush Re: democracy in the Middle East with such credibility?)

Clark takes on the Religious Wrong:

"I'm a Christian. I think I'm right. Bill Frist going on that TV show, that's not the Christian right. That's the Christian wrong. They're extremists. They're wrong. The Christianity I know is about love. It's about lifting every person up. The Christian right is taking the word of the Good Lord and twisting it to political purposes."

Clark also said he's starting a new national inititive to make election day a national holiday. Clark attended the California Democratic Convention today.

2. Was he at the convention itself or a reception?
He announced he was running according to the diary. Why would he announce at the CA party convention? Why not Arkansas?

I think the poster at DailyKos may have gotten a little carried away.

I'm not sure if it was the convention or a reception afterwards. Poster didn't say. I'm guessing a reception afterwards.

4. Sounds like he may have decided to run.

The big question "Am I going to run again?"

The crowd goes WILD. Shouting, screaming, women's panties on stage...uh, no, I'm making that up. But trust me, if this crowd could've they would've.

Drum roll please: "Well...I'll certainly have to take your advice about that."

The crowd erupts. He gets to take a water break. Hell, he could've walked around the block and come back before it quieted down.

He asks for our help. He says that last time, he had no political experience, no political strategy, no money when he started and no staff. This time, he promises that if we help, he'll have the money, he has the strategy, he'll have the staff, and he has the experience.

Folks, I'm sitting next to General Clark's media consultant who doesn't want me to say this so blatantly, but what I heard is that General Clark is running in '08. He explained to us that he intends to spend the next few years building the strategy, working the language and connecting the grassroots together for, as he calls it, "a giant march on Washington."

Hope, hope, hope.:bounce: :bounce:

8. Yes he did
Just got back from the WesPAC reception and it's all true! He announced!
Wes Clark is running for President! I heard it with my own ears! Heather heard it too!
Wes said, "People keep asking me if I'm going to run for President. Well, I am." Huge cheers and applause!
Too tired, (I can tell because I'm exclamation point happy) will post more tomorrow, but I wanted everybody to know it's all true!
Wes Clark 2008! We need buttons, bumper stickers - the works!

11. Clark may have gotten tired of playing the political game
all the other "potential" 08' candidates are playing and just let it out to a group of loyal supporters. It's not in his nature to be double-faced about anything. He's a very straightforward kind of guy.

It's fitting Clark confirmed his intentions this way.

Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This deserves a "four-star bounce!"

10. Sometimes you know who
you just didn't know when.

The first week of Feb 2003, my granddaughter was visiting from California and as we waited for the Daily Show to come on, we had Aaron Brown on CNN and Wes was there. We discovered that we each were totally mesmerized by him and said what a great president he would be.

We didn't know when, but now it's so right! And ironically, she was there last night and I will be at a luncheon with the General Wednesday.

We aren't taking credit for the coming sunrise, but it's been a long dark night and we recognize a new day IS coming.

That is so simple and true, it is perfect for these so-called Christians of the "right". They do not stand for Christian values. They are the "religious wrong".

16. And this is the very area that Democrats are attacked...
When it is the Democrats that hold the strongest and most righteous position when it comes to taking care of the poor, the needy, the old, etc...It is not the Democrats that want to cut off food stamps for the poor and give all the breaks to the wealthiest. It is the "religious wrong". And they are "wrong" for not speaking up against what their Party is doing, also.

Mary Magdalene was not a Prostitute. It was St Gregory who combined her with the woman in the story who was to be stoned. MM was a leader of women and a woman of some financial means in the view of most bible scholars.

I doubt that most Christian Americans know much about what you are talking about. Keep in mind that they are the audience....the ones who need to understand that christianity is not a political party.

Attention Ms. Snark, nitpicking critic of all things Wes Clark aka Ms. Bible expert extraordinaire.......Clark mentions that "the Christianity I know is about love. It's about lifting
every person up." (HINT)

and last night Clark also said...."Americans will believe that a Democratic CinC will defend them when they first become convinced that " Democrats will defend other Democrats."

Can I get an amen?

45. Jesus said that fighting for one's nation was acceptable
because the law of man is different than God's law. Otherwise, there would be no laws against anything that was not covered in either the Ten Commandments or the Judeo laws set forth in Leviticus.
I'm sure Clark has prayed about the "tools of his trade," as you say and he has made peace with his God.
And he never lied about the reasons for the Kosovo War (I know plenty of Kosovar Albanians to back that up), unlike most of the Christo-facists in the Bush Administration.

Of course, Christianity also forbids one to judge, which is what you do of Clark every time you show up on a thread.

However, and in fair keeping with my argument between the separation of God's law and Man's, I will say this: Every time we sit on a jury or become a judge, humans "judge" and aren't condemned to hell as a result - another separation of man's law and God's.

I don't know your religion, but I'm sure you could appreciate the hypocricy in what you just said and did.

47. !!Where does Jesus say this??!! Um...who would Jesus bomb?
This is some tortured 'reasoning' on your part I would expect from General Boykin of "my god's bigger than his god"-fame.

You are now justifying war in Jesus' name. That's so...sad.

And calling me a sinner for judging those who kill and lie about it, which is my accusation of the military industrial complex Clark worked for all his life and still does.

I think your stretching very hard to keep a halo on the General and horns on me, dontcha think?

"Blessed are the peacemakers..." Every military figure claims that they prevent war and defend humanity. Every one. As they pull the trigger.

The thing about roosters is -- they keep crowing all day long! It can be 3 in the afternoon and they are still doing it: "Hey, everybody! Remember what a great guy I am? Huh? Huh? Maybe if I crow again, something else neat will happen, even though it's been pretty much the same the last 297 times I put on my show!"

24. You have to understand - it is for me, too.
My parents were hippies and never Yuppies.

Hell, I kept finding pot pipes stashed in the house until I was grown.

However, growing up in the South, my parents never were anti-military during Vietnam. In fact, they never got their friends' hatred toward the soldiers when it was the policy that was wrong - of course, both their fathers were in the military and both hated the war, so a mutual respect was always out there.

I dunno. I think when we stopped listening to one another, we stopped learning.

I hope that the Wes Clark DU group has a thread where they're saving up such perfect quotes. Skinner told me once in response to an ATA question that the admins can set up a thread so that it stays pinned to the top of a forum thread list but (unlike the admin threads) remains open for posting. I'd love to see a thread like that for Clark quotes. When we're out convincing people to open their eyes, lines like these can really help to reach them.

But the full effect of his incredible charisma and intelligence didn't come through as he campaigned across the country. This was due to inexperience, I'm sure. But that was then and this is now.
