Crowley (D) was free to whip for bankruptcy bill like a repub
Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) summoned Democratic lobbyists to the Capitol for a meeting last week and then dispatched them to solidify pro-business Democratic support for the bankruptcy reform bill, adopting a practice regularly used by the Republican majority and its business allies on K Street.

Lobbyists at last week’s meeting said they were pleased that a House Democrat was taking the initiative to deputize them as off-campus whips and expressed hope that their joint effort on the bankruptcy bill would become a blueprint for future coordination between Democratic leaders and lobbyists.

As part of his regular outreach to interest groups, but not in his official capacity as a chief deputy whip, Crowley asked the lobbyists to help drive up the final Democratic tally to signal to the financial-services community — in New York and on K Street — that House Democrats are not averse to promoting a responsible business agenda.

“It stems from a concept of personal responsibility. That’s not a Republican concept. Personal responsibility is a Democratic concept as well,” Crowley told The Hill.
.....
“On a bill supported by the business community, I don’t know if I’ve seen a Democratic lawmaker do it,” the lobbyist said, adding that their efforts were made easier in the absence of official opposition from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

1. ''that House Democrats are not averse to promoting a responsible business'
how is damaging the economic interests showing business that you a responsible business agenda?

and personal responsibility -- well frankly -- that's a fucking value judgement -- and you've just shown yourself along with repukes that you have values.

bogus argument made by folk that we pay to be better than that -- fuuuuuck!

right now -- for me -- they're all pigs.

3. Next thing the New Dems will be talking about Dubya's "ownership society"
They are Democrats unworthy of the name. I will be sending NO money to the DNC, the DCCC or the DSCC--only to individual Reps and Senators who vote like Democrats--not to those who vote like Rethugs on economic issues.

If Democrats cannot stand up for working people, they have no right to call themselves Democrats!

4. This is a clear failure of leadership within the Democratic Party.
It's very troubling.
