2. It caught me by surprise when I turned on the kitchen TV around 1pm
while making spaghetti sauce for tonight.

But I digress.

Here's all I could find online so far:

NEWS CONFERENCE - Democratic Leader Reid, Democratic Leader Pelosi on Republicans' abuse of power in U.S. Congress. 10:45AM Room S-211, US Capitol

So either it was delayed (HAH!) or they were reshowing it for some reason.

I'll give details in my next post here.

5. Here are 2 "preview" type newspaper articles I found online:
Today, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada will hold a news conference at the Capitol to tie DeLay and the burgeoning scandals around him to GOP efforts to ban Senate filibusters of judges and remake Social Security. And DeLay is featured prominently in Democrats' fund-raising campaigns. One appeal refers to three potentially vulnerable Senate Republicans as ''mini-Tom DeLays."

================================================
"Not too many people knew who Tom DeLay was before any of this emerged, but he was having an effect on their lives,'' said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, who has scheduled a news conference this morning with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to discuss what she characterizes as Republican abuses of power.

4. Details on Reid and Pelosi april 13 news conference
When I turned it on, Reid was talking about abuse of power and the assault on judges. They mentioned, by name, the guys whoe are actually inciting and inviting violence against judges.

Pelosi took over and spoke of the radical right wing that has taken control of Republican party and is doing everything for their own self-interests and if rules prevent it, they just change the rules. The focus was on DeLay but she scattered bullets and dropped bombs on most of what's happened with Bush Co. Without naming the PNAC, you just knew she was talking about them.

After that, another woman whose name I can't recall just now took over and elaborated further.

Bottom line - they're calling on concerned Republicans to come work with them to take back the goverment and start doing things for the people instead of big business and special interest groups.

The spoke on rules that have been changed and why -- they talked about the sneaky tricks used by these guys to get bills forced through including Medicare and ... um... uh-oh, brain is stalling.......

Damn!

Afterwards a bunch of Republicans responded by saying it's partisan attack...DeLay has done nothing many other congresspeople do as well...All the uproar is because Dems have to ideas...

It was excellent! And I'd BETTER see something about it in print somewhere SOON.

Pelosi: Republicans' Abuse of Power Undermines Ethics and Shuts Out Democracy

4/13/2005 1:56:00 PM
To: National Desk

WASHINGTON, April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following statement by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was released today:

The Republican majority promised after the 1994 elections to manage the House in a way that fostered "deliberative democracy," which they defined as the "full and free airing of conflicting opinions through hearings, debates, and amendments." They also pledged in their Contract with America to "restore accountability to Congress" and to "end its cycle of scandal and disgrace." Instead of sticking to their word, they have broken their promises, betrayed the public trust, and abused their power. Specifically, they have undermined the ethics of the House, abandoned any principle of procedural fairness or democratic accountability, and overreached into private family matters and the federal judiciary.

9. Yeah, it's a partisan attack all right
Fer chrissakes. Can't the GOP do better than that? What about denouncing the politics of personal destruction? That's always good for a laugh.

Press Conference to Announce Conservative Leadership Petition to Support Tom DeLay

Contact: Don Feder of Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration, 508-405-1337 or 508-395-0142(cell)

The conservative movement -- which elected both George Bush and the Republican Congress in 2004 -- is uniting behind House Majority Tom DeLay. Specifically, the Declaration endorses DeLay's call for judicial reform. Echoing the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, signers of the Declaration are saying, "We must save the Constitution from the Court and the Court from itself."
