Boycott Canadian seafood - sign petition to stop seal killing
http://www.protectseals.org/

This site contains video of seals being clubbed to death - I haven't watched it. It also has a petition to sign and an agreement to stop buying seafood from Canada and a down loadable pdf file of how to identify seafood from Canada.

1. Why do they need to kill seals?
Do people eat them or what?

3. I take it you're informed of the Canadian government's position?
ATLANTIC CANADA SEAL HUNT--MYTHS AND REALITIES

And may I presume that you have further information to rebut all of their claims?

Legitimate questions, please don't be upset with me for asking.

(I appreciate that people are passionate about issues, but I especially appreciate activists who are truly informed of all sides of any issue.)

4. a seemingly huge amount of BS in the government's position . . .
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 10:42 AM by OneBlueSky
for example, how does their claim that the entire "harvested" seal is used comport with the visuals of seal carcasses stacked on the ice and, according to reports, simply left there . . . "DFO encourages the fullest use of seals, with the emphasis on leather, oil, handicrafts, and in recent years, meat for human and animal consumption" doesn't seem quite sufficient . . . similarly, the claim that white-furred baby seals are not killed belies the photographic evidence . . .

on edit: the whole process is simply barbaric and unnecessary . . . killing huge numbers of these creatures just for their pelts is not honoring Creation, or the Universe, or God, or whatever you consider sacred . . .

5. I think I just realized the problem
The Canadian government may have a law against seal killing but they are not enforcing it. This seal hunt was documented by the Humane Society of the US. They are a very legitimate organization and do a lot of good.

So they are filming and going to send the film to the government to make them implement their laws. (If I am understanding it correctly)

It sounds like our gun laws that are overlooked by law enforcement.

From the article on HSUS:

"Threats of assault, even with weapons, are tolerated here. Our cameras are not. This is because the Canadian government and sealing industry know, as we do, that when the world sees what happens up on the ice floes, this hunt will not be allowed to continue."
