2 democrats and repugs obstructing passage of civil rights bill
That's right -- here in WA state we have been trying to pass a simple civil rights bill that would protect GLBT citizens from discrimination in housing and employment for over 30 yrs. Polling shows that over 70% of the voters in WA support passage of this bill, but 2 DINOs and the bigoted republicans are preventing passage of the bill.

They used a procedural motion to prevent it from coming to a vote because they KNOW the people of WA state support the bill and they don't want to go on record as voting against it. They are right, we WILL use it against them in the next election, but we can only do that if we can get a vote on the bill.

Read what one commentator has to say about it:

http://www.komotv.com/kenschram/story.asp?ID=36189

But we aren't going to let them get away with it. We're running TV ads to let folks know what is going on. You can read about it here:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/aplocal_story.asp?category=6420&slug=WA%20XGR%20Gay%20Rights&searchdiff=1&searchpagefrom=1

We don't have near the amount of money we need to get these ads on the air and keep them on the air until they make an impact. We need help!

The GLBT civil rights group in WA state, ERW, helped the state to go blue last Nov, taking away the repug majority in the state senate and barely elected a dem governor. We canvassed, we raised money for candidates, and we even ran TV commercials to help remove a particularly onerous repug from the state senate.

Dems, I appeal to you -- the GLBT community has loyally stood by the democratic party with both donations and volunteer labor for decades. Will you now help us? Help us get these ads on the air and keep them there. Any donation you can make will make a difference in the lives of so many people if we can get this simple bill passed.

2. Just a little means a lot
... whether it's 10 bucks or a hundred, it means a lot to know that dems will stand up and be counted, and support the folks who have long supported them.

There's a lot of support for equality among the progressive community, but not so much action. I am convinced that the GLBT community doesn't do a good enough job of asking for that action, and that if we did, progressive dems would help us. We are a distinct minority and can't do it on our own.

Believe me, it's tragic when somone is fired from a job or denied a place to rent because they are gay, and it happens every day, even in blue states, because the laws are not in place to prevent it.

Thanks to all of you who are willing to help change this.
