Here's hoping that Tom Delay survives in his leadership position.
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 05:54 PM by David Zephyr
Friends, to paraphrase Richard Nixon, we need Tom Delay to kick around some more.

In fact, the very best thing that can happen to American progressives and to our causes, as well as to the Democratic Party would be for Tom Delay to survive and remain --- albeit politically wounded, festering and even stinking --- in his powerful and highly visible leadership position within the Republican Party and the U.S. Congress because he will taint his GOP colleagues, boat anchor their policy-making/corporate whoring, and perhaps best of all, help return Congress to the Democrats in 2006. Tom Delay is our best ally now.

The real question is: Can and will Democrats be able to restrain themselves from piling on top of Congressman Delay now that he is truly spinning out of control within a Texas-sized shit storm of his own making? Will Democrats be able to control themselves and thereby force the Republicans to do their own dirty work, to eat their own in public...to pull the plug on Terri Shiavo's faux champion, Mr. Delay?

25. And look at what began going down now with Shays
Shays is being outed as a homosexual by Republicans just minutes after he comes out against Tom Delay.

2. I wholly agree with you
Delay, Santorum, Frist & all those nutball commentators like Ann "Big Dick" Coulter. The wackier & more corrupt the Repugs look, the better we look.

3. We need him to hang on about 6 more months.
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 06:07 PM by cry baby
We also need the shrublite to endorse the crook. Has he done that yet?

It seems that Rove has let the hounds loose on Delay to get him out now before he can do any more harm.

It looks like the repubs may take him down themselves and save the dems the trouble. The only thing is that they are speaking out asking for his resignation now. It's too early - they are trying to make their own timetable.

Shrub's mouth said something about how Delay is a friend of his and he looks forward to working with him more.

10. Tom Delay has a lot of dirt on the Bush Family.
That's the dilemna for Republicans, why he is so feared within the GOP congressional delegations and why Bush and gang are on their prayer rugs that the Democrats do their dirty work for them.

I just saw the Bush statement that you refer to in LBN. Delay has the goods on Bush, Cheney, Baker and also Wendy and Phil Gramm.

13. As the former whip of the house, wasn't he in charge of getting
anything his people wanted, I mean anything! He probably has dirt on a lot of repubs. The ones who stand by him are probably the guilty ones (which includes shrublite).

15. Which is why Shays is already being rumored to be homosexual.
He's not called "the hammer" for nothing.

Tom Delay can bring down the house of cards that he helped create.

As you correctly point out, cry baby, Delay was the whip of all whips. He has dirt on most all Republicans in the House and a great number in the Senate.

Delay will be sure to begin making Congressman Shays "an example" for the rest of the Republicans to behold.

I say, let the show begin. Like Tandalayo_Scheisskopf's post below, bring out the popcorn.

12. Didn't * say something similar about Kenny-boy Lay? Right before
* did a 180 away from him. And didn't * say something similar about Tenet before Tenet had to "spend more time with his family"? Delay's definately going down due to pressure from the WH. Just hope he flings mud and takes others w/him.

Real lukewarm...but Bush is on record as supporting ethically challenged criminals, so that's a good thing.

And the best part is that he will do everything he can to prolong it!

Hopefully, he can twist in the wind until next year's elections and drag down the GOP with him.:)

26. He will be twisting for years to come
Federal investigations, grand juries, etc. These things move at a glacial pace. There will come a point at which the GOP will be trying to sweep him under the rug before the '06 elections, but he will still be there in full view come November of '08, whether appealing convictions, serving time or lingering on like an undead zombie ala Trent Lott.

5. Remember:
These guys think that they cannot lose. By thinking that, they will hang with him much too long. In the interim, they will internally savage the members of their party who have already tried to place distance between themselves and Ol' Buggy.

For the Texas and Southern States delegations and the fundies, DeLay is Their Word Made Flesh. The living symbol of the power they have sought for so long. The financial enabler of their dreams.

As was predicted before the election, no matter win or lose, there would be a bloodbath in the repukes.

Just think: It's only begun.

9. No, it's NOT the best thing that could happen.
Tom DeLay is probably the most corrupt politician in Congress, maybe of all time. He has perverted the Constitution and the rule of law over and over. Texas has been practically destroyed single handedly by this bastard. I'm GLAD that bush and the Repukes are turning on him, regardless of their motives. It reassures me that even in these dark days, there still are limits to what will be tolerated in Washington. I want JUSTICE. I want DeLay's head to ROLL, preferably right into a prison cell.

11. What is it with all the bizarre rationalization lately?
Perhaps you haven't noticed, but it's kill or be killed out there.

DeLay must be oustered.

You don't hear Republicans saying, "Let Hillary stay in New York because it will be great for us!"

Stop the madness.

14. Delay is not going without a fight
Delay is not going to leave his position of power without a fight and that fight will hurt Bush. We still need to push for Delay's ouster and just hope that we can raise enough of a stink that will be noticed by the rest of the voters.

A damaged and wounded Delay is good for the Democrats. Lets keep pushing as hard as possible.

Scandals aside, lets not forget that this guy threatened the judiciary on national television and laid out the groundwork for Republican state Legislatures to redraw districts as they see fit.

I tend to agree, DZ. Forget about Delay. Let the Repubs rassle with whether they want to keep him or let him go. It's up to them. I really don't give a damn. But we will remind the voters come next election.:)

29. Let him twist slowly in the wind, at least until November 2006...
Let him become the ""face" of the Republican party in the house. The more the country identifies the party with Delay, the better off we are. Maybe, someday, they'll get sick enough of their shit to throw the bastards out on their asses.

And, by the way, you stay clear of those twisters that are threatening Mississippi today. :hi:
