NEW YORK More than two months after he resigned as the White House correspondent for right-leaning Talon News, James Guckert -- also known as Jeff Gannon -- was back in the spotlight this morning as part of a panel at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

When the panel ended at 11 a.m. after the alotted 90 minutes, heated questions were still flying from the audience and moderator Rick Dunham of the Press Club told the audience members to seek out panel members afterward.

The panel had closed with Gannon refusing to say, under repeated questioning, how long it had taken him to get his credentials to the White House, something for which others have had to fight. Another panelist, Matthew Yglesias of The American Prospect, commented: "I have a hard time believing that you don't have a recollection of how long it took you to get access to the White House."

Gannon replied: "I guess they felt it was my turn."

4. What a great quote:
"I was about the only news source providing that information without a filter. There is nothing wrong with reporting what the administration says about a particular issue. ... Why does everything have to be looked at through a lens that represents every point of view?"

That's called journalism. You have to tell both sides of the story.

5. Sounds like GG is ready to take his place on CNN, Faux, or MSNBC
He's the kind of objective journalist that they seem to promote these days.

7. Not only a mouthpiece, he also plagiarized, copying from WH talking points
and putting his name on them. Not only a self-admitted propagandist, he doesn't even seem to realize that plagiarism can be a career-ending no-no for real journalists.

6. IIRC, when Guckert/Gannon was really pressed for an answer
as to how long he had to make phone calls and talk to people about getting into the WH press room (and he'd made it sound quite arduous), he acknowledged it might have been a whole week! Hard work, Jeffy!
