51. Barabbas was a revolutionary
He had "killed a soldier during the insurrection."

He was not a common murderer.

That seems to be the point of the parable: Jesus says "render on to Caesar what is Caesar's" (that's one strategy for dealing with occupation), while Barabbas had "killed during the insurrection" (a completely different strategy for occupation).

That the Jewish people chose the violent revolutionary rather than the passive prophey is not surprising, given the general sentiment against foreign and Roman rule at the time.

16. There have been death threats against Michael.
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 10:28 PM by CottonBear
I have discussed this whole horrible situation with my very conservative, southern religous friend. She finally said to me (yesterday) "This is all about the courts not about Terri (herself)."

I think I have made a breakthrough with one conservative woman. She has experienced the prolonged illness and death of several family members and she is outraged at the actions of the Republicans.

11. There has to be a tipping point coming if this keeps up.
Let's see, the religious right is about 15-20% of the Repub base--so how are they going to like it if all the rest of their voters abandon them? They are so divorced from reality that anyone can plainly see it, except for those who only listen to Fundy spokespeople and believe all the lies.

If not, then I really don't recognize this country anymore. I really don't.

On the Subject of Lying Media:

I saw ABC Nightly News Blatantly Lie tonight. First they said that tape that was secretly taken of Hot Tub Tom last Friday was at a Press Conference, which is a Lie, no press were allowed there. Second ABC chopped the tape to make it sound like it was done this week and was a response from Delay on what has happened this week in court. Sean Hannity would have been proud.

I saw on the news tonight that there's a small town in Italy, where there's a woman playing Jesus in the local Passion play. She only plays Him in the crucifixion scenes though.

And then there was the Indigo Girls version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" with Amy as JC and Emily as Mary Magdalene.

if they attempt to "save" Terri, then 82% of the country will be pissed off and worried about the rule of law in this country. If they DON'T "save" Terri, fundie whack jobs like the one you quoted-their "base"-will want to "hold them accountable". Either way, BushCo loses.

53. People aren't buying the spin on this one
polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support the courts decision, and would NOT want to be kept alive themselves if they were in the same position. The very thought of having one's "shell" kept alive in such an undignified manner makes most people's skin crawl, and nothing the media can say alters that gut reaction.

Unless Florida gets 12 hurricanes this year (and he gets to play the weary teary guvnuh and gets some sympathy votes), he's finally finished.

It's time to go after DeLay...of course, with the intentions of giving him a slow political death. What will he come up with next!
