"Dean Delivers Top 10 List on Letterman" (taped earlier today)
He's got a nice sense of humor. Maybe this will take a little of the edge off. I'll be watching...

1. I thought he was doing a sit-down with Dave.
So his appearance is limited to the Top 10? Might be pretty funny, actually... but I thought his appearance was going to have a little more weight to it.

I think #7 is pretty funny, btw.

:D

I'll be watching!

5. I think it's better this way...
He just needs to show that he's rolling with the punches...that's exactly what this does. AND, it'll give CNN, MSNBC, and FOX decent soundbytes. This should stop the trash talk.

20. I don't think he's a guest...on the CBS website it says
Matthew Broderick and a Mars expert. Think it's just the Top Ten...like I said, though, I think that's perfect.

13. A sense of humor is Dean's best bet.
I'm not a supporter, but he needs to take the recent mockery in stride and have a good sense of humor about it.

It's really his best bet, and a better tack than the recent modulating of his enthusiasm.

off by Dean's performance the other evening. But he is an intelligent, good man. Unfortunately, the medium often is the message. Medium cool, guys! Arthur Godfrey revolutionized radio 60 years ago when he realized while recuperating in a hospital bed that a radio announcer should talk to listeners as though he were a guest in their houses, not address them as though he were at a convention hall packed with thousands.

I felt the other evening, watching on tv, that Dean came across very poorly; but I can see how how his speech might have worked if one had been there. Unfortunately most of us weren't.

I think the Letterman Top Ten appearance is a step in the right direction.

We have to remember that radicals like Reagan and Dubya have managed to manipulate the medium to project themselves as rational, compassionate human beings -- which they were and are not. It would be tragic if our candidates, intelligent and representatives of all that is best in our now-threatened republic, allow themselves to be portrayed unfairly by not paying attention to the limitations of the medium.

Good luck to you, Dr. Dean!

And for all our sakes, may the best (Democratic) man win!

17. Thanks for posting this link.
I'll have to tune into Dave tonight. This list was funny. It should be even better being read by Dean. I really like his ability to make fun of himself. You need that in politics, because everyone makes mistakes.

26. This is great! But look at how AP skews their story to discredit Dean:

Classic bit of spin to make Democrats/liberals look bad:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=696&e=10&u=/ap/20040122/ap_on_el_pr/dean_top_10
Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean turned to late-night comedy Thursday to poke fun at his arm-waving outburst in Iowa that has proven politically damaging. Dean taped an appearance on "Late Night with David Letterman" in which he presented the Top 10 list. The last Democrat to deliver the list was Rep. Dick Gephardt (news - web sites) of Missouri on Jan. 12. After a poor showing in Iowa Monday, Gephardt abandoned his presidential bid.
- - - - - -

AP has written this to discredit Dean. His pep-rally speech has been morphed into an "arm-waving outburst," which AP declares has "proven politically damaging." (Has it? Isn't a little early to make that call? Does anybody really care about a pep-talk?)

Further, AP makes the leap to suggest that an appearance on Letterman is the last gasp of a losing Democratic candidate, since Gephardt tried it and then dropped out.

I don't ever want to hear the phrase "liberal media" again!

Great move by the Dean campaign, especially in concert with the appearance on ABC PrimeTime tonight.
