American People Still Idiots
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 07:55 PM by smoogatz
This from yesterday's WaPo-ABC News Poll on SS and Iraq. 61% still believe Saddam gave support to al Qaeda? 56% STILL believe Iraq had WMD? Who do you blame here? Corporate media? Bush/Cheney? Or is America really just a nation of dumbasses? Unbefuckinglievable. I'm practically speechless.

1. You're look at a nation that stopped reading newspapers...
And tuned in to Fox News. Can't expect anything good to come from that.

2. I never want anyone in this nation to ever ask the question...
...why the Nazis weren't stopped by the German people in the '30s. I used to hear this question all the time in my high school and college history courses, as if the German people were too stupid to realize what was going on. Well guess what? Now the Germans can ask the same question about us 70 years from now.

Propaganda and a complacent, cooperative media work frightenly well.

3. You captured my mood perfectly
Also..was thinking that part of belief is denial and something more-not just lack of information-but identity!

To believe in yourself, in your neighbor, in your leaders, you must believe that what they are doing is JUST.

So of course, we are fighting Iraq because Saddam had weapons..or of course we are fighting them because they helped Al Qaeda. To believe in facts that state otherwise would mean you are an idiot being used by master propagandists.

It would mean facing the truth..that what you are doing..and what Johnny going to war is doing is a lie and besides that it isn't even working!

Truth, it's not for most people. It would mean they would have to actually do something and either throw the bums out-or look in the mirror and realize they are lying to themselves.

And that's why we are depressed and angry..and those that we challenge get mad-because we are challenging their very core beliefs about themselves. Denial is easier. It means you are innocent.
There isn't even a crime, afterall.

And you can be innocent, by being lied to, but once the facts are there, once you don't even care to look at the facts, you become part of the lie. If the "freeper" types were really truly innocent and what they were doing was just-our silly facts wouldn't threaten them so.

4. You are absolutely right, but it is taking it's toll...you can't keep it
up forever. I think their heads are exploding...they don't know why, but they are.
