Will the 2006 election be the most important of the 21st Century?
What are our chances? It seems to me that 2006 *has* to be our 1994. We have to take back the Congress.

But the Republicans know this, and they play very, very dirty.

If they get a "mandate" by holding both houses of Congress, we're in for a very, very dark time. All my Rethug friends think that the Republican victory in 2004 gives them the right to pretty much do whatever they want - From Social Security dismantling, to Credit Card Company enriching, to tax giveaways, to invasions of other soverign nations, to turning Alaska into a Dick Cheney wonderland.

They're now moving forward with these insane plans. If we don't convince the American public that they must be stopped by 2006... the sky will indeed be falling...

or maybe I'm wrong.

2. After taking all the
emotionalism out of it, holding the office is having the mandate. A mandate is not the same as consensus. We have elections to determine who will hold the various offices, and these office-holders make the decisions on governmental policy.

We can weep and wail all we want to. But if they are re-elected, or whatever, they have the right and the power to do as they wish. By the way, having a right to do something does not mean that it is the right thing to do.

Scared yet??

3. Oh dear yes!
And the control they have over the minds of their minions is even scarier. Everything they do is, by definition, the right thing to do.

6. Most important? Impossible to say.
Sorry, but we just don't know what issues may be before the country in 2044. We may be dealing with the problem of immigrants from the plant Kronos. OK, just kidding about that. But to try to say now that the 06 election is going to be the most important of the 21st century is just too much.

That being said, it is a very important election. I am not optimistic about it. Congress critters tend to get reelected. We have a bunch of senators in red states up for reelection in 06 and you can bet they will be targeted.
