Third World Here We Come
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 10:03 AM by SHRED
While the BushCo. regime continues the wealth transfer, guts our civil rights, removes environmental safe guards, reduces the VA benefits, "protects" us from stem cell research, prepares for Iran and Syria, continues the Iraq debacle, kisses Saudi Arabia's brutal, dictatorial ass, and on and on, what is Congress doing?

Well they are going forward with Shrub's plan to make sure those rich, spoiled, ballplayers don't use steroids. Now that is the MOST pressing issue of the day. No...not the trade deficit with China(thanks Republican backing Wal Mart) or the largest national debt in our nation's history, not that our ports and the cargo containers go woefully unchecked, not our health care crisis that is bankrupting millions of hard working folks...nope...it's fucking baseball folks.

Don't worry. If the REAL ISSUES get too heavy then the corporate, republican mouthpiece, mainstream media will always find another shooting or celebrity trial.

Third world here we come.

1. Good diatribe - all too true.
And they'll be laughing as the economy tanks and the unwashed masses sink into abject despair.

2. Major media news outlets provide diversionary entertainment
not news. They've become the useful idiots of the administration, disseminating snippets of propaganda, checkinf off their talking pints, and filling air time with inconsequential, sensetionalistic stories. My main news source is The Daily Show . It might call itself entertaiment, but broaches subjects not covered by programs billing themselves as "news"

3. So true
All of msm news appears to have evolved into an "Entertainment Tonight" spin off.

5. DU is now my first news source because DUers know which
stories matter and need to be brought to everyones attention. In a way its like the Daily Show because of the mix of comments stories provoke. So welcome to the undergound Agnomen. I hope you find it as valuable as I do. Cheers.:hi:

4. staggering stats
source: "Regime Change Begins at Home ... Freeing America from Corporate Rule" by Charles Derber

"the top three shareholders of Microsoft own more money than do all six hundred million people in Africa" ... and

"of the 100 largest economies in the world in 2001, 51 were corporations and only 49 were countries" ...

we live in a corporate state that has taken over our democratic institutions ...

6. Players on steroids is a kind of metaphor for America right now
The game that represents America and its ideals...
fair play (at one time) is now just gotten rich
by cheating, using illegal (now) substances by
people who won't admit to using them. The ones
who are rewarded, admired, held up are essentially
cheaters and liars.
