Bankrupcy vote - the end of the Democratic party, and the middle class

As a life long , moderate democrat, it has become clear that our party no longer represents the hard working people of our nation. and instead has become the party of right wing corporate media.

I am ashamed and disgusted to know that this bill passed with 70+ votes. SHAKME ON YOU for hanging those with medical bills out to dry. That's not the America I know.

After years of defending this party, I no longer can. It's time for a new party (and please, no animal rights crap - we will never win seats with that).

1. It has become so painfully obvious that even the fucking REPUBLICANS
are embarrased about it.

2. Maybe not the popular vote
but I'm finding more and more people who like animals a hell of a lot more than they like humans. Not my choice, but hey.

3. Gee, that is any class that work for a living, businesses, their
...executives and owners remain protected and insulated.

4. The poor and middle class rarely file for bankruptcy.
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 08:53 PM by Zen Democrat
In fact, out of my entire extended family, the only people I know of who have filed personal bankruptcy are my uppity Republican cousins.

They've filed for bankrupty twice over the years -- and are currently living high off the hog again.

I'll bet more Republicans/wealthier people have taken advantage of the liberal bankruptcy statutes over the years than have the working class. I think this change in the law will hurt the Republicans worse than the Democrats.

7. That's not true, actually.
More than half of all bankruptcy filings each year are middle-class families overwhelmed by medical bills from a serious illness (cancer, etc.), even if they have insurance, which is mind-boggling, or sudden job loss or divorce. This will devastate the already-reeling middle class, no question.

9. Not if they're working for someone else..................
I know many self employed people and one person who owns his own company (employing about 100 or so people). These people can, and do, file for bankruptcy often. Especially the one who owns the company. He's gone tits up 3 times, and is always back in business (the same business) within months. Lenders will always give a corporation money.
The self employed people fare pretty well too. None of them has had to sell their home, possessions, anything. And they're back in business quickly too.
If you work for someone else, you're pretty much screwed. Especially under this law. This is just one more nail in the middle class's coffin.
This really isn't going to be kind to business either. People are going to stop buying on credit now. They'll smarten up and start living within their means. If the refrigerator goes, they'll buy a used one now instead of a new one on credit. This is going to mean fewer sales for business in this country. They may have just shot themselves in the foot. At least I hope so. These greedy bastards have no idea what it's like trying to tack their way through bush's turbulent economic seas.
Screw them. If everybody stops buying on credit we can put these diseased fucks out of business. But I doubt that'll ever happen. This is America. Consume, consume, consume. More, more, more. Now, now, now. :puke: I'm stating to think that capitalism is pure evil. :grr:

11. I know a poor man who lost everything but his car and $5,000 to
start over on after his wife died and he lost his second household income. Her medical bill were sky high and he tried to pay them but lost.

Other people in that shape have filed and saved their homes and enough assets to start over.

6. the corporate party
For awhile I've noticed huge similarities between "Republicans"
and "Democrats" and then the "corporate party".

We do not have a democratic we have a theocracy and the kings are the multinational corporations, which I feel is even more frightening
than Kings. At least a King was a person whereas a corporation
is only a Personage when it needs to get out of something...a pure
sociopathic entity.

Anyway, I'm completely up for a new party, and grab some "Republicans"...issues such as the deficit I believe we'd all agree on
and there are many others and on the issues that no one can agree
on...just forget it, free individual ride but the party has no position for the sake of unity.

# one is no more corporate contributions/lobbying/money/whatever
else they are doing to get their votes and goodies.

8. wow
you must be an anarchist! Take down the social structure?

Don't you remember (at least) one RW congressman's wife divorced him because the lobbyists couldn't take them out for dinner any more?

Are you trying to destroy people's LIVES?

Oh yeah. Then there's working for a living.

12. wow, she divorced him? I never cease to be amazed
I took me a lot time to figure out that people "I do not understand"...
I probably do not want to be capable of understanding.

Can you imagine being married to someone who leaves you over the lack of the "power lunch"?
