Eeeek! Republicans 56% favorable, Democrats 46% favorable
Just what the HELL are the dems doing wrong?

President Bush has a 57% job approval rating in a new Gallup Poll. This is his best score since last January. While the public is fairly split on his Social Security initiative, the numbers on Iraq could not look better for the President. 53% say things are going well or moderately well in Iraq. 64% believe that a democrarcy will be established in Iraq.

Perhaps most crucial is the following report:

“The poll suggests a positive environment for Bush’s party. Republicans received a 56% favorable rating, compared with 46% for Democrats — a 10-point advantage, up from 6 points in September. And 55% said Bush’s policies would move the country in the right direction — up from 51% last month.”

Bottom Line: It’s incredible what an election, a superb speech, and an awesome visual can do.

2. I don't hold much stock in polls
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 10:28 PM by thecorrection
If you believe polls, John Kerry would be president now. I sometimes think, (putting on tinfoil hat) that the pollsters are paid to generate "positive" polls.

edit for dyslexia.

3. First thing, it's Gallup.
Take away about 6 points from the republican score. Second thing is that many democrats are probably feeling pretty down on the party after the recent November loss.

4. The Democrats aren't doing anything, that's what they're doing wrong
Besides this is a "bounce" that the chimperer always gets after a speech or apearrance.

5. Better question might be "what can Dems do differently?"
We could (and at DU we do!) argue endlessly over what Dems are doing wrong. But what can we do differently, considering how many Americans are stupid, apathetic, or both. When they are too dumb or lazy to think for themselves, or don't give a rat's ass about the truth, is there anything we can do?

6. I'm not buying it for a second.... Crock of Sh*t.
The polls (esp gallup) are no more than propaganda tools. I'm not buying it... the but the powers that be are, and they are paying top dollar for desired results.

15. If Gallup's poll is correct
then Zogby's poll has to be correct too (the one where he had John Kerry winning at 311).

24. Unfortunately - The Stupid Freeps Will See The #'s And....
think that they're high because of *'s Social Security Plan and the Budget. I think they planned it this way knowing that they would get a bounce from the Iraqi election and then slide these two losing plans in right before the #'s were announced from the polls after the election. Let's watch the next poll - that one will be more telling.

10. The Iraqi elections gave Bush the bounce
This happened when Saddam was captured and when his sons were killed. Otherwise, his numbers remained fairly constant.

14. Yes Rasmussen has his approval going back down already.

They should not report on polls taken directly after something like the elections in Iraq. They should wait a couple of weeks after people have digested everything.

23. Actually, I'd recommend they should wait a month or even longer
Doing it this way means you're less likely to be skewed by momentary shifts in public opinion that are different from longer term trends.

11. Actually, I prefer other signs of approval. There are about
15,000 more registered at DU than when I first joined, shortly before the election.

I know, I should have joined sooner, but I am a cyber dummie and only found you by accident.

I watch the list grow larger by at least 100-200 a week. So what is Dubya's approval rating?

13. This is Bush's high water mark.
He has another symbolic victory devoid of meaning. This is May 1, 2003 without the flight suit. But it is not going to last.

17. It's like what happened with 9/11
A week after 9/11 happened his ratings were at 90%. Does anybody know what they were at the next poll taken after that?
