Could Dean use this to his advantage?

Seriously... everyone is talking about Iowa as if it's some kind of great predictor. It's not. So... if Iowa (being the chaos of last minute horse trading it is) turns out to be an anomaly (which would NOT surprise me a bit), then could he possibly use that roar to his advantage?

If Dean does better in NH or subsequent primaries, I thought it would be fabulous if he could get Busta Rhymes on board. You know, USE that clip, with Busta's "got you all in check" to refer to the other candidates. Just a thought. :)

Anyone else have any ideas on how to turn a negative into a positive?


(on edit: sorry to start another speech thread, but so many people are acting like Iowa is predicting a trend, and I thought if it isn't, then he really might be able to capitalize on this attention)

1. You Raise an Interesting Point

that sadly I didn't see because I was caught in the same box as everyone else. Yes, if Dean does take NH after this, he will get an amazing boost. Unfortunately, he has just a few days to turn the tide in the polls. Kerry is coming on hot and heavy, and seeing NH was supposed to be a shoe-in for Kerry in the first place, Kerry's rise to the top is inevitable. So for Dean it is a battle for second place in NH.

C'mon ... you have to be kidding me if you think Dean's supporters can't mobilize in NH for him.

Plus, even if he does come in 2nd, he's not stopping there. Does the lack of time to get ahead for NH necessarily mean that he won't before the other primaries?

2. Sure! Always embrase a negativeand turn it into a positive. Dean should

"Yes, I'll rant and rant and rant about people not having health care. I'll rant about our freedoms being lost under the Patriat act", etc.

In other use the "rant" acusation to his advantage.

3. Iowa isn't a good indicator for the nomination.

Dean will either tease himself about the speech or he'll say that it was just an intense moment the day before the caucus and he'll move on.

Getting back to the nomination, I think only very few times has someone won Iowa and then got the nomination. Jimmy Carter in '76 and '80 and Bush and Gore in 2000. Every other election, the winner of Iowa DID NOT get the nomination. Dean's still the front runner, it's just a lot tighter now.

Should Dean lose NH, he's in deep trouble. And that is the beginning of the end for him.

But don't ever count Dean out.

4. campaigning for 18 months, opting out of limits, promising the sky

and coming up very short isn't a good indicator of success.

I'm not saying Dean can't come back. I'm saying you need a better argument than this one if you want to argue that Dean can come back.

7. Holding on to third place...

when you have 4 or 5 guys attacking you non-stop... when you have the media attacking everything you say or too as too angry... when you have the republicans attacking you non-stop... when you have gephardt sacrifice his career and throw himself on his sword for Kerry... while Edwards and Kucinich make back room insider deals... and to still hold on to 18% and 3rd place is one hell of a good show.

They threw everything they had at Dean and pulled every caucus trick they could and still only bumped Dean into 3rd.

Now we'll see Dean real strength in states where back room deals and switch overs are of no help.

Nobody is talking much about Kerry.


Why, because Kerry even as a winner in Iowa is still boring a 3 day old toast.

Say what you want about Dean and his style, but he got the crowds attention, lifted their spirits, and his face has been all over the media because of it.

People may make fun of him, but they also made fun of clinton... it makes him more human and more real than the wooden candidate who drones on in a monotone voice... never doing anything interesting or motivating.

Without Gephardt to sacrifice himself for Kerry, Kerry will have a very very hard time beating Dean in a primary state... especially one where Clark is running and pulling from the same pool of voters as Kerry.
