Let's apply crazy DU logic! Bayh > Feingold!
And Mark Dayton is a hideous hybrid of purest snowy goodness and enduring, utterly malevolent evil based on his Rice vote and his Ohio debate speech and vote, respectively. Whichever one DUers forget first will stamp him irretrievably as one or the other, until the next "ohmygoshthissinglevoteisallthatmattersnow" moment pushes that too out of people's heads. Whoops! I have to go spit on Wellstone's grave now because he voted for the Patriot Act. If you'll excuse me.

1. Let's apply realistic DUer logic
Bayh did the right thing and Feinstein was the absolute worst Democrat on Rice.

so the real formula after today is Bayh ~= Feinstein.

6. Except, now Feinstein's taking the lead AGAINST Gonzales, and it would be
quite difficult for Republicans to claim she's playing politics.

Maybe there is some aforethought there that actually has a way of working under these worst of circumstances.

3. Feingold is consistent.

He has never voted against a Bush nominee to the cabinet for the reason that he does not believe that it is proper unless the nominee is agregious(forgive my spelling).

15. And a lying incompetent warmonger isn't agregious??
If that's the case, where exactly would Russ draw the line?

7. yep...
that's about it. Why anybody thinks Democrats would rise en masse to oppose cabinet appointees who would be approved anyway is beyond me.

9. I applaud Bayh's vote. And, the other 12's. He still voted for the war.
So, what's your point? That we should not attack him when he, or any other Democrat, sells out?

11. It's crazy, but I wouldn't call it 'logic'
It's a knee jerk emotional thing. It's part of the 'woe is me, the sky is always falling, I'm so scared and frightened' mindset that some have.

Every battle isn't the war. The real battles are coming up. Rice is wounded somewhat, almost better to have her in there than some clean slate neocon.

13. Boxer voted for the Patriot Act too
But we're all better now re: her. Let's get Feingold! No, let's get Kerry! Wait, he voted against Condi. But since I don't really like him anyway, I think I will continue to hold his IWR vote against him, and call any of his other votes "campaigning for 2008." Convenient, isn't it.

It's sort of a herd mentality, with alittle bit of "who's popular" thrown in.

I think I will stick with the guy who represents my nerdiness. Debate geek 2008! Go Kerry!

Bayh, who gets castigated all the time, is suddenly a hero. Talk about short memories...

16. Bayh's no hero
Neither is Kerry. They deserve applause for taking a stand for what was right TODAY, just as they deserved condemnation for voting to enable the Bush agenda when they did that.

The fact that they have been on the wrong side far more often than the right side since the theft of the 2000 election is why my general opinion of them ain't about to change with one good vote. Nevertheless, for that good vote, they should be recognized.

it's pretty predictable also now. everytime i a vote comes up which is considered the big thing on DU at the time i expect to see a bunch of posts calling for defeat of those who didn't vote however many on DU wanted them to.

personally i think the health care bill for kids Kerry wants to pass is a lot more important than these votes on appointments.
