Image or Ideals

I want to know what you all feel would be the better of the two following strategies.

1) Pick our battles for right now and work toward changing our image from the 'liberal elite' that we are viewed as now to something more enticing until such time as we have the power back.

2) Stand strong on our convictions and demand that we not only be heard but that we be listened to as the minority.

1. I choose 1)

because by doing so we are more likely to achieve 2). Perception is reality. We must change perception and incremental change is better than no change.

We should never give up the GOOD in hopes of the BEST and must never stop reaching for the PERFECT.

2. "Liberal" is not a bad word

and the image that it is, is false. The vast majority of Americans are Liberal, whether they know it or not.

So your strategy boils down to.. Let the opposition define us and bend over and take it like wimps. That's a horrible strategy in politics and in life. Standing firm for your principles is the only way to succeed.

3. Liberal wasn't the bad word

elite was. The perception of our party already has been shaped by the opposition, that was my point.
