LOL!-Va. Sen. George Allen "Sweet nectar of liberty" -4 times over 7 years
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 09:16 AM by underpants
One of the most memorable and embarassing moments of Condi's testimony yesterday was Virginia's junior Senator reference to the "sweet nectar of liberty" and Iraq. It turns out that this seems to be one of favorite phrases:

A speech from October of last year
The elections this fall are the most important since 1980. Elections decided in the midst of war have a profound impact on our lives and nation's future. Ronald Reagan's election changed the dynamic of the Cold War from one of containment and co-existence to the advancement of freedom. As a result, hundreds of millions of people in Central Europe, once behind the Iron Curtain, now taste the sweet nectar of liberty, have joined NATO, and are true friends and allies.

Sen.Allen's remarks on the Senate floor on Reagan's passing
But President Reagan believed the blessings of liberty must not be bestowed only on a few nations and only to those blessed to be born on free soil; Ronald Reagan, with the strength of his convictions, exported and advanced democracy to continents, countries, and people yearning to taste the sweet nectar of liberty.

from 1998 when awarded the "Jefferson Scholar" award
Governor Allen noted that there are "those in Washington who question the wisdom of the free citizens and believe an all-knowing federal government is somehow more capable of providing answers than are families and elected public servants in the States." He also pointed to North Korea, China, Iraq, Cuba and other countries where "there are people who have never truly tasted freedom's sweet nectar. And there are other tyrants and despots and terrorists, such as the cowards who bombed our two embassies, who fear democracy and freedom of religion, and who would snuff out the flame of liberty if they could. But they must not," the former Governor declared.

3. What an embarrassment.
I really hope he ends up tasting the sweet nectar of unemployment when 2006 comes around.

I really googled it to see it again and found these three references. Good God that's not even a good line.

Local TV (NBC) showed Allen saying, "Senator Kerry needs to realize the election is over"

5. *HIS* "Sweet nectar" is ACTUALLY Purple Kool-Aid!
...go ahead, DRINK UP!

FYI:
It is a popular misconception that 900 followers of cult leader Jim Jones committed suicide by drinking Grape Kool-Aid laced with cyanide at their commune in Jonestown Guyana in the late 1970's. This is not true. The followers of Jones actually drank cyanide laced Flavor-aid, a cheap imitation of Kool-Aid.

8. George Allen is a national embarassment
This is likely the dumbest member of the Senate. This man is just plain intellectually challenged. In the vernacular: Dumber than a box of rocks. He makes Normie Coleman look like a Mensa member.

10. Dumber than Ducan Hunter?
I know Hunter is in the House but I have heard several comments about how bone stupid he is. Yes Allen got elected because his dad was the Skins coach and no one can tell me it is for any other reason.
