The Difference Between Liberals and Conservatives
I borrowed this from another board.

It is interesting that there is so much hatred going back and forth between the liberals and conservatives. So let us look at what each group has brought our country.

The liberals have brought us
1. A country, it was a liberal idea to break away from England in 1776
2. The right to freedom of speech in 1791
3. The right to freedom of religion in 1791
4. The right to own weapons in 1791
5. The right to be protected from unreasonable search and seizure in 1791
6. The right to a speedy trial in 1791
7. The removal of slavery in 1865
8. The right for minorities to vote in 1870
9. A minimum wage in 1912
10. The rights for women to vote in 1920
11. The understanding that being left handed is not deviant behavior in the 1930’s
12. The repeal of prohibition in 1933
13. The social security system in 1935
14. The 40 hour work week in 1938
15. The right not to be tortured in 1949
16. The repeal of segregation laws in the 1960’s
17. The right to vote without having to pay taxes or pass tests concocted by pollsters in 1964
18. The creation of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970
19. The right to vote if you are 18 or over in 1971
20. The right for women to choose in 1973

On the other hand, conservatives have brought us the beliefs that
1. We should follow select versus of the protestant version of the Christian bible. I.E. Gays are bad but shellfish is good even though both are expressly forbidden in the same book of the bible.
2. You must follow the President 100% or else you must be 100% against him, absolutely no middle ground
3. It ok to suspend the constitution if we need to as long as it does not directly affect you… yet
4. We are somehow better then the rest of the world because of where we were lucky enough to be born here
5. The environment is someone else’s problem
6. The Geneva Convention applies to everyone else, but not us if we really need to break it
7. Those who have different views are deviant, unpatriotic and evil
8. It is ok to attack another nation if we even think they might attack us in the future or might aid someone else in attacking us, but it is not ok for someone else to attack us if we will attack them
9. The ACLU is destroying the country because they actually protect the Constitution regardless of who’s rights are being suspended
10. Freedom of religion only relates to Christians picking which sect of Christianity they want to believe in and not to Atheists, Agnostics, Muslims, Jews or Buddhists
11. All Muslims are evil because of the actions of a few while forgetting the atrocities committed throughout history in the name of Christianity
12. It is ok to hate anyone who is not exactly like you
13. It is ok for the rich to get richer at the expense of the poor
14. A poor person who commits a crime that robs one person deserves decades in prison while the rich person who steals from thousands deserves community service or a suspended sentence
15. Having more money means that you are morally superior to those that do not
