The next GOP presidential team

The repugs are not going to give up the RW. IMHO McCain ('36) and Guilani('44) are out of the running. They are too moderate and TOO OLD!

The perfect team for the GOP's for 2008 is Bill Frist/ Rick Santorum. They keep their base and you continue with young men....Frist can have the WH for 8 years and Then Santorum whom is 6 years younger.

The RW will love this team......I want to vomit!

2. Don't forget Elizabeth Dole.
She tried for president back in 2000, and I think she came in 3rd in Iowa (could be wrong, but she did very well). If they get desperate they'll put a woman up to attract the female Dem voters.

3. I seriously would be ecstatic if they ran that ticket
Did you see Frist's speech at the RNC with all of his exaggerated body language? He would be an absolutely horrible national candidate. I just cannot see him having any mainstream appeal. At least Shrub reminds people of a "regular guy" who would be "good to have a beer with." Frist has no such appeal (unless, of course, you enjoy mutiliating cats). Plus, his mile long voting record would be easy to attack.

And Santorum, well I really don't have to say anything about Santorum. Can you say Dan Quayle #2?

I think the Republican field is pretty weak in '08. Unless they run Jebbie, which is the only candidate that I am genuinely afraid of. The rest are all jokes.

24. Frist is going to spend the next two years "grooming"
He's not running for re-election to the senate in 2006. The ONLY reason he would give up a powerful position like Senate Majority Leader is because he wants to be president. The fact is that the guy has saved several peoples' lives on the street when they had heart attacks. They will use this for everything it's worth. But the best thing about Frist (for the GOP) is that he's another sock puppet in the BFEE.

And Santorum is perfect for the VP spot, like Cheney he will bring out the conservative base in mass numbers.

You are right to point out that they are both very flawed candidates. The fact is that we shouldn't underestimate them but instead we should use these flaws to our advantage.

5. The bad news is:
The bad news is: The Republicans would win 70% of the popular vote in '08 if they were smart enough to run McCain or Chuck Hegel. The good news is: They are captive to the nut-right at the moment and probably won't.

25. Chuck Hagel wouldn't win 70% and neither would McCain
McCain might get SOME democrats but after he stumped for Dubya like that, I doubt that he'll get too many of their votes outside of his home state. Evangelicals aren't going to like his pro-choice stance and his vote against the FMA.

7. only far right could love those two
Sanctorum is the one who took mis wife's miscarried baby home and showed to his kids to make an anti-abortion point.

Frist actually makes me long for genteel rationality of Trent Lott.

They wil go with a Bush-like candidate, far right on the issues, but superficially moderate to fool those who aren't paying attention. Within a very short time after this election, both Jeb Bush and Arnold said they had no plans to seek higher office, and Arnold went on a high profile foreign tour recently, and Jeb is about to for the tsunami.

They will do whatever they have to to get Arnold on the ticket because he will lock up the stupid vote, just like he did here in CA.

Jeb seems more urbane than his brother, who always seems to be doing an imitation of one of the hillbillies in Deliverance. He will make it seem like the GOP is putting up a moderate candidate to undecideds, but will make the right noises to the religious right.

19. NO Arnould in 2008
Not even for VP.......maybe 2012 if they overturn the 22nd

quote......
But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.
--------end quote.......

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment12/

Now you are correct that they would lock up the stupid vote whom really are voting for the terminator just like in CA BUT we will have to wait until 2012 for that.

31. They maybe 'miracle workers'
but changing the constitution in less than 3 years even for them is impossible. It would have to be on the 2006 ballot to get enough people to the polls and even that is very questionable. 2012 is the MOST optimistic election date. Besides even Arnould should be in office more than 4 yrs before he aspirers to the HIGHEST OFFICE

10. Bill Frist definitely will run
He could probably win the nomination, Bush will endorse him after Super Tuesday if he survives. As for Santorum, he's definitely in trouble for reelection in PA, because he's been charging the Allegheny school district for his kid's school, even though he and they live in Virginia. We'll see, I guess.

I say we take the next three years and spend them digging up EVERY bit of dirt on EVERY Republican in a higher office than county commissioner and then use EVERY chance we get to publicize it.

Then we'll go after the county commissioners, sheriffs and dog catchers.

27. Yes, Jeb/McCain, Jeb/Schwartzeneger, Jeb/Frist, in that order.
Schwartzenegger would require an unlikely to pass ammendment, so doesn't seem probable.

I can't see them doing anything other than one of these three approaches, unless they choose to embrace a surprise primary upstart, such as Hagel, come the end of the primary, for party unity or moderate vote.

Frist is offputting with the weird hair and Lottish manner, but not stupid enough to make man on dog comments - the types of extremist comments disqualify Santorum. Frist is definitely too offputting for them to risk him at the top of the ticket.

Hagel will be the McCain/2000 of 2008.

36. It's likely George Allen of VA (I despise him!) is going to run.
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 10:53 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
There's an article in today's paper about it (as well as the possibility of our current Democratic governor, Mark Warner, possibly as a contender) in 2008.

Btw, notice how the paper butters up Allen's paragraph and "not so much" on Warner's...typical of this paper.

www.richmondtimesdispatch.com

<snip>

Allen's name is on a long Republican list headed by two fellow senators, John McCain of Arizona and Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee.

Warner's name is on a long Democratic list headed by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Allen, 52, is being touted as a Reaganesque conservative with a sunny manner and a resume that includes stints in Congress and as Virginia's governor. He also gained favor among Republicans last year by leading the senatorial campaign committee that picked up four seats.

Warner, 50, is being touted as a moderate Southern Democrat who has shown how the party can win in a Republican-leaning state.

37. No Jeb, Frist, Santorum
I have no idea who the GOP will be annointing in '08. But we will know in '07. the repubs like to have their ducks in a row very early on, so the powers that be are probably meeting as we speak to pick the new fair haired boy.

Having said that, I don't see anybody from Washington coming out since they will be so tainted by the economic tsunami heading our way. Also, remember the great history that Senators have running for President.

As for Jeb, fuggedaboitit. This country is going to be so through with the Bush dynasty after 43 gets done raping the country. Hagel? McCain? Schwartzeneger? Pataki? None of the above. The GOP is not going to nominate a moderate candidate as long as the loony christians rule the roost(and they do!).

Here's my off the wall prediction- another actor(not Britney Spears)!

Jebbie has said he won't run.

You MUST assume the opposite of what they say!

Also sympathy card for Jebbie for hurricanes and this tsunami trip (Tsunami Tour '05!) is a great first campaign stop. WATCH those pictures of him with his arm around some poor soul trying to look like he's feeling his pain pop up again in 07.
