You HAVE to hear this comment by Gov. Rick Perry (TX-R)
Today we had the largest deployment of Texas National Guardsmen in 50 YEARS and when Gov. Rick Perry was addressing them, he said:

"You are heeding the call of your Heavenly Father."

Yep. Saw it for myself. GAG. :puke:

3. Um, SHOULD BE
but this is Texas. Where apparently it is ok to talk about a war as if it were a religious crusade.

I was so sickened by that.

Exactly.

On edit, if a soldier is atheist, he hates America.

29. And this is the type of thing that causes
other countries to dislike us so much. Out of one side of their mouth, they say it isn't anything against Muslims, etc. And out of the other comes this kind of crap. Obviously, they don't get it, but for the life of me, I can't understand why they don't get it.

Wife to fill in for Texas lawmaker in National Guard
posted by Jermaine Ferrell on 12-29-2004 5:04

Houston state Representative Rick Noriega will be on active duty in Afghanistan when the legislative session starts in January.
But the Houston Democrat and Texas National Guard major's seat in the Texas House of Representatives won't be empty.
His wife, Melissa Noriega, will fill in for him.
A state constitutional amendment approved last year allows lawmakers called to active military duty to designate their replacement until they return or their term expires.
Noriega won re-election last year while on active duty in Afghanistan, where he's training that country's army to fight terrorists.
When asked why her husband chose her, Melissa Noriega told the
Houston Chronicle -- "For one thing, I'll give it back."

13. Hey man.... they have a lock on God. They don't need any approval from
people who truly follow his lead... hence the confusion over what they are doing and why they are doing it, oh and for whom.

7. Any Texans here?
When is Gov. Goodhair up for re-election? First off, he is a gay man who works against gay rights and now this.

I'm not too far from the Texas line and would be happy to do some volunteering to get rid of this asshat.

14. He's not so bad, he just knows how to play to his audience
Not that I like a damn thing he's ever done, but he's too greedy and ambitious to be anywhere near as bad as W is.

Blame Perry's audience. If there were more atheists in the state, Perry would have no trouble pandering to them, too.

As for him being gay, that rumor got started a while back when the press got word that a pretty governor with good hair was having an extramarital gay affair, and was about to be uncovered. A lot of people linked it to Perry, but now it looks as though it may have been the guy from New Jersey. Perry's sexuality is still up in the air.

David Dewhurst, now, the Leutenant Governor... there are a lot of rumors about him.

And he's up for re-election in 2006. He may be defeated, but it will be from within his own party. They are debating running a moderate woman, Carol Keaton Strayhorn, and she would be unbeatable by the Dems unless someone finds a body in her closet.

Fortunately I am not in the Collin County area. That really would be EGADS. I am in a more blue collar area where we still have unions (OH MY GOD, EVIL UNIONS!) who vote Dem overwhelmingly. And a Dem superintendant of schools and four Dem school board members and two Dem city council members. So it's not as bad as the...ahem....northern burbs.

20. Unbelievable!
Today on VH-1, they showed a clip of a person telling Bush(at one of the "question the Prez" events) that this is the first time he felt like "God was in the White House".

It was one of their year-end shows where they were picking the winner of the year. They were talking about God, not Bush, but how so many people seemed to think Bush is God.

Things really are going crazy it seems.

This just amplifies what was people described in this thread -http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1462613 People getting preached to while trying to check out at Walmart and, in the responses, little kids running up to stranger's tables at restaurants telling them to pray.

Someone posted that on November 3rd they said Jesus has been hijacked by the Republicans.

Unfortunately at this time, we don't really have a great candidate on the horizon to take the governor post back. Not that I've heard.

A good repuke scandal would help.

32. I wish we had a decent candidate....
It will be lots of fun watching Carol Keeton Strayhorn Couger Mellencamp (or whatever) duking it out with Kay Bailey Hutchinson--& both of them duking it out with Governor Goodhair. (He & Kay both have cheerleading in their background.)

I'll dutifully vote for whatever Democrat comes forward--hope it's somebody better than the last guy. But I'll be sorely tempted to vote for Kinky Friedman.
