Michael Moore's "Safe at Camp David" photo of Bush, from his Web Site

Stationed on the farthest island in Alaska's Aleutians, Coast Guard Fireman Michael Joseph feels like he's living at the end of the earth. But he wasn't too far away to receive a Christmas Eve greeting from President Bush.

Placing calls from his mountaintop retreat at Camp David, Md., Bush talked to 10 members of the U.S. military around the world and in the United States to thank them for their service and share holiday greetings.

"It was pretty nice just to know that all the hard work that we do out here gets recognized by the president," Joseph said. "Not many people back home where I'm from can say they've talked to the president."

Bush placed the calls to the service members, including six stationed in Iraq, on Friday morning from the western Maryland retreat where he was to spend Christmas Day. He is to fly to his Texas ranch on Sunday, where aides say he plans to relax until after the new year.

1. Our troops in Iraq deserve to "relax until after the new year."
Too bad they can't. Unless you count those who came home in a flag-draped coffin, like the 21-year-old reservist from my hometown who was buried on Tuesday.

Happy holidays, George! Not.

3. One of the soldiers gave him an ear full
Bush cut him off. Just like Rush would do.

5. Is this really true. If so, GOOD FOR HIM. That soldier should have songs
sung about him for a thousand years.

19. Crawford looks like it's about 50 miles
east of Waco on the map. Don't know exact mileage. Houston is about 200 miles from Waco.

10. I'm gonna go out on a limb here
... and say that's because he IS a little chicken shit!

I would love to fight him.

Merry Christmas. I hope he gets a stocking-full of coal, but it'll more likely be Iraqi oil.

12. Any Morale Boost For The Troops, Even From The Chimp, Is A Good Thing!
In the spirit of supporting the troops without supporting the mission, we have to accept this bittersweet gesture as a positive step. The troops need and deserve every gesture of reinforcement we can muster.

17. A positive step would be armour and bunkers
What Bush did is for his homeland PR people, and had nothing to do with building troop moral.

Here's what Christmas really looks like in Iraq...

15. Lord, why? Why? Why must we be forced to look and hear from this
chimp 4 more freckin' years?

Could this chimp be any more pretentious? He could care less about the troops, as long as they are their securing those oil reserves for Halliburton, that's all that matters. (Sigh) I guess he has to make good PR every once in a while for the Fundies, ya know...

18. Bush has been looking like he's under a lot of tension and stress lately.
Anyone else notice this? At times he looks to me like he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Much as I dislike everything Bush stands for, it is troubling to see the president in that kind of apparent mental agony.
