Tim Russert selectively cited Dean to mischaracterize Dems on abortion
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 10:40 PM by ClarkUSA
On Meet the Press, Russert selectively cited Dean's remarks to mischaracterize Dems on abortion

On the December 19 edition of NBC's Meet the Press, moderator Tim Russert mischaracterized remarks former Vermont Governor Howard Dean made on the program a week earlier about the Democratic Party's position on abortion. Russert played a clip from the December 12 Meet the Press, in which Dean suggested that the party "ought to make a home for pro-life Democrats" and have a "respectful dialogue" about the issue. Russert then asked Wall Street Journal national political editor John Harwood if Democrats are "rethinking their position on cultural, moral issues, on abortion?" But immediately preceding the section of the clip of Dean that Russert played, Dean had clearly stated that Democrats should change their "vocabulary" but not their "principles" on abortion, and that the Democrats are "the party of allowing people to make up their own minds about medical treatment."

1. I noticed that immediately too...Russert always cherrypicks for his agenda
The Russert staff deliberately cut out parts of Dean's full statement on pro-life democrats concerning how they are for issues about life AFTER the womb as well.

Timmy sure is a great journalist.

3. This is a shame
On a poll, (I think it was a Harris Poll) Russert was the only newscasters rated equally un-biased by both Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals.

We need to see the manipulation for what it is.

8. This does not surprise me
this is Pravda's favorite way to manipulate the news. They can do this covert method and keep a straight face when claiming to be unbiased.

It is this subtle stuff that is so much more dangerous and effective than the really blatant stuff like Faux. It is the special kind of stupid who are more likely to lap up that crap like mother's milk. Often the more reasonable, intelligent can get suckered by the subtle MO of the "real news" sources.

No matter how you look at it, everywhere you look, there's deception at some level.
