Attack On DU Calling the DUer Delusional
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 10:33 AM by Jon8503
The following is a post calling the DUer delusional among other things.

Here is the link where you can read about yourself.

12. why does he "spend so much time" here?
Knows in his heart that he is supporting what is wrong... looking for the truth even though he cannot consciously accept it for what it is.

It happens at all levels, on all topics.

Behold a Grand Waste of An Intelligent Person's Time - Trying to stereotype a "collection" of thousands of varied viewpoints into some brazen anti-liberal talking points.

You can't generalize to a collection of people. We come from all walks of life and a continuum of democratic viewpoints. Heck, here at DU the DLCer rant away DISing other Democrats as "defectors" and "anarchist" with full support to speak their mind - as it should be! ... if they did that on a republican message board, they'd be banded by the gestapo in a heartbeat.

IMHO such generalizations about DU prove to be hype to feed red meat hysteria to republican oriented echo chambers?

He is a Koolaid maker. If he thinks what Bush offers needs no countenance in reality why have we no WMDs in Iraq? Why are Iraqi schools being built with U.S. taxpayer money while funds are cut across America? Why does the world hate us? Why do he and his cohorts push Social Security privatization to solve a problem 40 years from today and yet can not give us a strategy to exit Iraq. Why was Bush elected by a slimmer margin then any incumbent Prez. Why is questioning radical ideas a radical thing?

9. This guy mirrors my county email group.
They love Bush. He kicks ass. He's one of them.

It doesn't matter that he has lost more jobs than any other president than Herbert Hoover. It doesn't matter that he invaded a sovereign nation using the pretext of lies. It doesn't matter that those troops are not being supplied. It doesn't matter that liberties are being curtailed at home. It doesn't matter that we have become the most despised nation on earth. It doesn't matter that the dollar is in free fall. It doesn't matter that minority voters are being intimidated, their vote suppressed.

What matters is their unfettered consumeristic lifestyle, their jingoistic mentality. They are beyond delusional. They just don't give a shit.

It is their version of "moral values."

13. Delusional?
I don't think the majority of Americans believe that I should be a second class citizen because I want to marry my partner.

I don't think the majority of Americans believe we should be slaughtering innocent people.

I don't think that the majority of Americans believe we should let our laws be decided on Jerry Falwell's interpretation of the Bible.

I don't think that the majority of Americans believe that the fact that the rest of the world hates us isn't important.

If that makes me delusional then so be it!

...and don't say "it's only a conspiracy until it's proven true"

we aren't going to win on conpiracies, we're going to win on meat and potato issues. not as fun to talk about, i know, but much more important.

So, what's our best position on social security? Raise the retirement age? Increase the payroll tax? Cut benefits? Let me know what you think.

Edit: And not from an ideal liberal perspective, from a perspective we can sell to a majority of Americans without selling out ourselves. Or maybe how to market the ideal liberal perspective.

Can anybody actually talk about this issue. I was asking those questions to get a response, not because I agree with any of them. Chillax.

I'm just saying that there needs to be more of a debate about issues, because without substance, you can't win.

(In fact, some give and take will be necessary on social security, so we need to present some position that will work within the framework of a government-based system and not the private accounts Bushco will be pushing shortly).

20. Social Security
First, on has to think that SS is a good thing, eh?

Since one does think SS is a good thing, when one prioritizes things, SS comes out pretty much close to the top of the heap.

Let's take a moment and rate two separate government budget items: Military spending meant to destroy people and things, and SS spending meant to enliven people so they can buy things.

Which budget item do you think, is, in the long run, the better?

23. In the long run...
social security means much more. hard to enjoy it if you're dead, but...on the other hand, i think the military probably gets to much money to fight aggressive wars anyway...

But how do you sell cutting military expenditures in favor of social security to the general public. Seniors may...may...like it, many will not.

26. How to sell?
It begins with the distinction of what is better in the long run.

Most of the military spending, imo, is a farce, a farce perpetrated by fear. Fear, as FDR or Churchill said, is the only thing to fear.

Anyway, if you, MAlibdem, do not believe SS is the best in the long run, then no amount of 'selling' is gonna get you to change your ways, eh?

You took it personally. My quote was meant more as "Take a walk in my shoes" way of opening a discussion. You are the one propounding that "They" will never buy into saving SS, I merely suggest that we examine the mindset you are propping up as the ultimate hurdle to success.

They may not like it. Why not? Why do you think they won't like it? Do you think they will pick death and destruction over life and construction?

Edited to remove mistaken quotation.

30. Senator Reed made some nice points about Social Security
and framed the issue well:

MR. RUSSERT: Private accounts for Social Security--the president has made that a priority of his domestic agenda. Will you work with him in privatizing part of Social Security?

SEN. REID: Tim, I can remember as a little boy my widowed grandmother with eight children. She lived alone, but she felt independent because she got every month her old age pension check. That's what this is all about. The most successful social program in the history of the world is being hijacked by Wall Street. Yes, Social Security is a good program. And if the president has some ideas about trying to improve it, I'll talk to him, and we as Democrats will, but we are not going to let Wall Street hijack Social Security. It won't happen. They are trying to destroy Social Security.

MR. RUSSERT: No private accounts?

SEN. REID: They are trying to destroy Social Security by giving this money to the fat cats on Wall Street, and I think it's wrong.

MR. RUSSERT: But, Senator, there are now 40 million people on Social Security. In the next 20 years, there's going to be 80 million. Life expectancy used to be 65 years old. It's approaching 80. If you have twice as many people on these programs for 15 years, you've got to restructure them in some way, shape, or form. What is your solution?

SEN. REID: Tim.

MR. RUSSERT: What is your alternative?

SEN. REID: Tim, all experts say that Social Security beneficiaries will receive every penny of their benefits that they're entitled to--100 percent of them--until the year 2055. After that, if we still do nothing, they'll draw 80 percent of their benefits. I want those beneficiaries after year 2055 to draw 100 percent of their benefits. But this does not require dismantling the program. For heaven's sakes, they're crying wolf a little too regularly here. There is not an emergency on Social Security. We can do this. The president should not try to jam this private accounts in an effort to destroy Social Security.

In the early--when Social Security came before the Congress, who opposed it? The Republicans. And they have a long memory. They've been trying to destroy Social Security for a long time and now they think they have an opening to do it.

MR. RUSSERT: Would you look at increasing or raising the age of eligibility? Would you look at means testing? Would you look at any reform?

SEN. REID: Of course. There are reforms that probably can happen in Social Security, and we're not, you know, saying don't even touch it. Let's take a look at it. I said I want people after the year 2055 to be able to draw all of their benefits. And, sure, we'll take a look at it, but don't give the ball to Wall Street.

MR. RUSSERT: No private accounts of any kind?

SEN. REID: Not as far as I'm concerned.

In their minds, it's always someone else's fault that they are losers. In fact, everything bad that happens is someone else's fault. It's never happenstance, or their own fault, or anything else - it's always a giant conspiracy to keep down the losers.

Sounds like every explaination I have ever heard from the Bush White House.

Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 08:50 PM by impeachdubya
So, here's my response.

You right-wingers have been floating the same load of tripe since the election. Allow me to disabuse you of the most noxious of your assertions, right here.

First off, how do we "explain" our "massive defeat"? No matter how you slice it, genius, there wasn't one. We almost won the fucking election, and even without the shennanigans, the disenfranchisement, Nathan Sproul running around Ohio and Nevada and Oregon and Pennsylvania registering Democrats and tearing up their forms (a Felony- for which I suspect Mr. Sproul will do the exact same amount of jail time as a Mr. Ken Lay probably will)... AND the fact that easily hacked Diebold GEMS tabulating software was counting, by some estimates, 30% of the votes.. Yeah, despite all that, your Chimperor's "mandate" was a 51% to 48% victory. If those numbers were reversed, would the right wing be taking it as a sign that they needed to abandon their core values? That they needed to court the Secular, Coastal, Pro-Choice voters who have abandoned the GOP in droves? Fuck no. Bill Clinton won twice and you ass-clowns only took that as evidence that the lord wanted you to become even more intransigent and obnoxious in your smarmy, church lady, Gay-bashing, Clinic Bombing, Doctor Shooting, Christian Rock ways.. So don't give me this "massive defeat" crap. When the right wants to tell us what we've been doing wrong, my answer is "fuck you- we haven't been doing anything wrong, and if we have, I'll trust someone like Howard Dean to explain what it is way sooner than I will some shithole neo-con blogger trying to be helpful"...

Secondly, I'm sorry if questioning the sacrosanct election results makes any of us "delusional". You people believed that Bill Clinton barbecued and ate Vince Foster, Hillary Clinton hung crack pipes on the White House Christmas Tree as part of a Satanic Ritual, and some of you stupid fuckwits still think the Clenis is bringing UN Black Helicopters in to tattoo barcodes on your foreheads and force your teenage daughters to use birth control... Yet we're delusional because we think the difference between the exit polls-- the same exit polls which are the basis for the assertion that "values" motivated a big chunk of the voters this time around-- and the actual election results smells kind of fishy, particularly in light of the fact that Bev Harris has conclusively demonstrated that Diebold's central tabulation software (the "proprietary" stuff they would sooner gnaw off their own feet than let a government agency or the public examine) leaves a massively easy back door open for hackers to come in and alter election results with no trail or secondary verification available. Yeah, what a bunch of "kooks" we must be, to not trust that Diebold- with the CEO who promised to "deliver" Bush Ohio- would do the right thing while no one is looking? After it's been shown that some of their head programmers had serious criminal records? Wow. Yeah, we must be nuts to even question those election results, when they diverged seriously and anamolously from Zogby's exit polling particularly in areas with Electronic Voting and questionable Vote Tabulation software...

But my favorite part of these oft-repeated asshat RW assertions is this saw about how the Democratic Party (along with Michael Moore, who speaks for no one except Michael Moore) "alienated" voters because of our "rhetoric" and "extremism". Like, Michael Moore questioning Bush's business ties to the Saudis makes him a "hate-filled extremist" but Ann Coulter calling for the execution of Liberals by beating with baseball bats means she's "in touch with the heartland". What a crock of utter, flaming bullshit. If "extremist rhetoric" alienated large swaths of the voting public, I guarantee you that the GOP would have silenced their mouthpieces on right-wing radio a looooong fucking time ago.
