7. I am totally unaffiliated at this point, but take heart
The Iowa caucuses have never been a really accurate predictor of anything. Dean's taken an enormous amount of heat lately from the press and the other candidates. This will get him out of the spotlight, which he needs, and give him time to regroup, which he also needs. He's been playing so much defense that he forgot how to play his game. This should give him time to get that back.

Personally, I think this is a long way from over now & for the Dems in general, I believe that's a good thing.

17. It's not even a primary. It's a caucus.
Big difference. This is why Iowa is not as indicative of the nominee as New Hampshire.

Keep your chin up. It's people like you who are willing to stand up and be counted for a better America that gives me faith in the future of our country. Not a Dean supporter, but a fervent Democrat, who will completely support the party's nominee.

16. A good man I do not agree with won.
There are other good men still in the race.

There are things to learn from this.

And more work to do.

Iowa is not the nation, but it is a state that can be proud of the effort it took to make an informed decision.

Dean began the fight. Whatever happens, we OWE him. We are fighting to defeat BushCo.

All of our good men need to show they know that.

Those tears better be tears of pride.

Dean and we will recover, plus now that Dean lost frontrunner status, they'll start underestimating him again. We just have to double and triple our efforts.

19. No need for gloom and doom
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 10:03 PM by depakote_kid
political junkies like we here at DU ALWAYS tend to blow things way out of proportion. There's a long way to go yet, and Dean still has plenty of appeal, plenty of funding and plenty of important endorsements. If anything, this blows the field wide open, making it essentially a 4 person race with a whole new dynamic, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Let the other candidates take some heat for a while. Let the Southern and the veteran vote be split. Personally, I think our chances are still excellent in New Hampshire, New Mexico and Arizona- and we'll win Washington hands down on February 7th.

20. Kerry win based on perceived experience?

This is interesting because it may signal that people know what a mess everyhing has become under Bush and are looking for a Washington insider to get rid of the troublemakers.

Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 10:06 PM by edzontar
REALLY worry...

For us, It's only one stupid state...but Kerry's rise...could mean Clark's doom

Dean will persevere in NH, where people are more likely to know that the media attacks are bullshit.

It ain't over, not by a long shot.

and, yes, it still hurts, but there are many more skirmishes ahead and your team needs you! So, as (uh, I forget) says, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back in the race!

25. Dean supporter here and I am disappointed but not down!
We all want to see our candidate win, no matter what state it is or if it is a caucus or a primary. Dean did not win today, and as Scarlett O'Hara said when Rhett walked out on her "Tomorrow is another day".

Let's go ahead and be sad for tonight's results, but tomorrow morning we will get up and get ready for the next fight in Hew Hampshire.

Keep the faith!

PS: Congrats to Kerry and Edwards. I will vote for the Dem candidate in November.

26. It's not over yet
This is making headlines because it was an upset.

Dean is not out yet, by any means.

Regardless, Dean will always have my respect for being the first one to call Bush on his bullshit, and to have galvanized the outrage many of us feel at what has been going on in our country. The Deaniacs are marvelous -- it is wonderful to see such dedicated, energetic people, and how much they admire this man. People are working their hearts out for him!

Dean has come up from behind before; it wouldn't surprise me if he does again -- so keep the faith. That's what the Kerry supporters have been doing throughout their own long dark night -- so I think you can do it for The Doctor.

27. If Dean ultimately loses ..

If Dean ultimately loses, he may still be a good Veep candidate. Especially when paired with a guy like Wesley Clark who has little experience on the "domestic" side. He is also a great "attack dog" which is the traditional role of the veep in an election.

Dean does anger well. I think he should keep it up. Dean WILL do much better in New Hampshire. It's right next door to Vermont and he is likely a lot more in tune with those folks.
