Tweety finally figured it out
We're creating enemies in Iraq and there's no end in sight. Amazing insight.

Do you still respect/watch him..or is it a loyalty to him for "turning you on to politics?" I'm curious...

15. Damn, you really hate Tweedy.
I knew about "neocons" long before Tweedy uttered the word. The surprising thing is that he was using the word in late 2003 in a derogatory manner. I agree that he is not simply pro-Democrat like Olbermann and Ron Reagan, but he was giving the neocons hell from late 2003 through about June 2004. After that, he pretty much played it even.

Tweedy can be obnoxious at times and even stupid. However, there are many out there worse than him. He is usually entertaining. Most DUers may hate Tweedy, but from the posts here, it looks like they still watch his show. I haven't really watched any political show since the election.

Maybe you could lobby MSNBC to give Ron Reagan his own show. Now that would be great.

30. Well, *I* DO Hate Tweety, and it's tweeTy, not tweeDy
Here's one of many saved rants that might address different facets of your love for Tweety:

He was a political flunky/operative under CARTER and O'NEILL. In the hothouse of big time political flunkydom, STATUS and POWER come from the SUCCESS of your boss. RAYGUN kicked Tweezer's bosses' asses, and Tweezer gravitated to admiring that "success". When he started up his media career he was mentored by G.E. RUSSERT, who had himself already started "turning" whore by "reaching out" to LIMBOsevic and expending his formerly-Lib-bleeding-heart on those poor wingnuts who had been maligned and marginalized, lo those many years. Tweezer started doing video valentines, walking arm in arm with Nancy. He might have tapped into the frenzy of the FAKE impeachment, but "hatred of the CLINTONs" isn't what made him turn. When he's around Senator CLINTON, he is gushing as much as with Nancy. And he tried to be the Press Secretary for CLINTON and got turned down. Can you imagine what a disaster he would have been as Press Secretary?-----making policy on his own, soon resigning over being disciplined. Anyway, he was LOST to us Dems LONG AGO, back around 1988.

scarred his already f*ed up psyche. His obsession with pay back became his own ticket to success - as rabid Clinton haters were/are always in demand in the "liberal media"

14. No........I never heard Tweety (Matthews) utter that he was "against Iraq
Invasion." Ohhhhh...do you mean when he had Pat Buchanan on and PAT was rumbling that Iraq might be a disaster...a "New" Vietnam that could bring down the Chimp?

One has to watch how cleverly Tweety positions his guests and really "parse" the questions to try to find where Tweety "really stands."

I thin the fact that so many DU'ers tuned him out speaks volumes about WHERE TWEETY STANDS!

Somehow thousands of DU'ers (check the Main Page for DU'er Members) decided Tweety was nothing but a Whore for Bush....somewhere in the last year. And you don't mess with a MASS of DU'ers. :D

Tweety is an ass and if he truly was/is against the war, he should have pounded that issue day in and day out since 3/19/2003. He should give daily body counts, emphasize the Vietnam parallels, take the politicos who support war to task everytime they appear on his show ... but he doesn't do any of that.

I turned anything NBC (which includes Russert, Imus, Matthews, Lauer)

44. He was a guest during the Rethug convention.
He was a delegate and is a county commisioner in Pennsylvania I believe. Tweety has cited letters from his sis-in-law about how VN Vets like his brother disliked Kerry and his anti-war stance. This is an older brother whom he admires and I believe is a source for his conflicted feelings. In the primaries he said his son was a Deanie. That is why I believe he flows back and forth. Also his own background in the Carter administration and his time with Tip O'Neil who in my mind was a total Quisling in dealing with Reagan.

It's to waffle around just enough to create some cognitive dissonance and pretend there is a *variety* of opinions. They juke to the left and right now and then so they can later say SEE WE HAVE OPEN DISCOURSE...which of course is BS. But when all you have to do is use an anecdoatal example read out of any larger context....well that provides the ammunition both sides need to remain happily pacified by the TV.

16. I thought Tweety had a great show tonight! His best line:
(asked of a retired general): "So how many Arabs do we have to kill before we convince them we like them?"

Actually, the show rocked tonight. The guy from Time Magazine (An Aussie?) gave a passionate analysis of how the U.S. has created its own worst nightmare by invading Iraq. Things are definitely not getting better, he said; they're getting worse.

blame Kerry. (Although I suspect they'll find some way to blame Clinton :-)

The Sunni resistance will only get worse when the Shiites take over the country after the January 2005 election. The Kurds will probably break away by February 2006. The "final" election is scheduled for January 2006.

25. It will probably follow his pattern. He shows himself to be somewhat
enlightened today. That'll change. The instant the republi-CONS have run amok again and bullied everybody into submission, he'll be the first one on his knees with his presidential kneepads. He's everybody's baby. He's as loyal as whatever direction he thinks the wind is blowing.

While I haven't watched him every day - much of the time I find him rather difficult to stomach - I've seen him often enough to know that - if indeed he really did oppose the war, he certainly swallowed that opposition easily. He could have made more of a consistent issue of it. He could have been a LOT clearer and more forceful, and held a LOT more republi-CONS and bush apologists' feet to the fire. But he was one of the loudest, most shameless slobbering voices over bush's "package" in that ridiculous flight suit. Disgraceful.

If he voiced opposition to the war, I'd say - WHAT opposition? Precious little. And NOW he has an epiphany and talks about what a mess it is. Frankly, that was clear from the beginning. It's only more glaringly and painfully obvious now, with a much higher death toll.

Took your own sweet time, didn't ya, Tweety. Either you're for the war or you're against it, bud. If you're against it, then dammit, BE AGAINST IT. SAY SO. DON'T PUSSY-FOOT AROUND IT AND TRY TO APPEASE THE "IN" CROWD SO DESPERATELY. And if you try to play both sides at once, and be all things to all people, you prove yourself to be nothihng but a whore, and you're going to reap the kind of "high" regard most of us on DU have for you, dear boy.

51. TWEETY FOLLOWS...
which way the winds blows! I remember his start with Tip O'Neill late Speaker of the House, back when Dems held court. He was high on "liberals" back then!

He's never gotten over his HATRED of Clinton, and I'm not sure what particular reason he uses now. I THOUGHT it was MONICA, but come on, if that's it he's a REAL BONE HEAD!

Yes, he WAS against the war, but lately all I've seen from him is ASS-KISSING and he doesn't seem to mind whose ASS he's KISSING!

I once thought he had a back-bone, but now have come to see that there is NO, NOT, NOTHING... "there, there!"

I REFUSE to ever watch him again. Unfortunately, if anyone has noticed, Olbermann uses his laugh on his show! But Olbermann has some "balls' these days and other than C-Span is the only TV news I DARE watch these days.

But I'll wager that he'll soon START wavering back to from whence he came... he can't stand to be OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT! Olbermann Upstaged him, and "Tweety" THINKS HE is why people watched MSNBC!! I'm so SICK of "point counter point" on all the shows, what's the POINT???
