Wading into the stream...
Well folks, I'm new to DU. I have been a regular gadfly on celiberal.com! It just got too tedious since the election dealing with the gloating and now a bizarre confidence and righteousness from the right.

If it is alright (and even if it isn't) I'd like to post Nosmo Kings manifesto.

I believe, as Lincoln did, that government is not only of and by, but for the people. There are too many things that government could do far better than the private sector. Stewardship of the environment is primary among them. Only federal regulation of polluters is an effective method of cleaning our planet.

The arrogant, fool-hardy foreign policy of the current administration will cause unimagined problems for not only the United States, but the world in the very near future. Without a more responsible hand on the tiller, our State Department and our relations throughout the world will become irreparably damaged.

The wheels of capitalism are greased with the blood of the workers. Privatization will open our future to exploitation by those with means and the rest of us will be left to struggle at a lower standard of living.

The lack of access to the system of contract law which provides the legal protection of marriage should be open to all of the age of majority. The only reason the state is in the marriage business is to provide the protections of binding contract law. Denying these protections due to sexual orientation is the last of the great discriminations.

Wal-Mart is evil.

Worker safety should not be compromised for profits. No one should get sick or die because of what they do at work.

That's it for now. Tell me, who should I look out for on this board?
Glad to be here!

3. Glad to have you here, Nosmo King. Welcome to DU.
Someone I know likes to say that Wal-Mart is the antichrist. I think evil covers it, though. Hope I don't show up on anyone's list of who to look out for on this board. :D

Keep the good words comin' our way!

5. To go further...
I believe that the state has no right to end the life of a convicted criminal. The system of jurisprudence is one established by man and, therefore is not infallible. Mistakes have been made in the past and will certainly be made in the future. Capital punishment should be abolished.

The entirety of the second amendment has been ignored by many Americans. That pesky part about 'a well regulated militia' is too often overlooked. If an individual can be barred from owning a grenade launcher, certainly we can do something about ownership of weapons which can fire 12, 15, 25, 35 bullets without reloading! If a sportsman cannot drop his quarry after six shots, perhaps hunting is not the hobby he should pursue.

The debate over a national health care plan should be joined without partisanship and with all due honesty.

No American should go hungry, without shelter or without an adequate education to make his own way.

To paraphrase George C. Scott's Patton character, 'alright, you SOBs! you know how I feel!'
