I turned the TV on this morning, for the first time in many days. Is that what they are really calling the attack on Fallujah? Are they kidding? What is wrong with my country?

I am not normally an overtly religious person but I am so sad today and I am seeking comfort.

Lord, comfort those who opened their eyes to a new dawn today. Touch especially those whose eyes are seeing the horror of first hand death and destruction. Place your hands over the ears of those hearing the screams of desperation and quiet those cries that echo through the land. Hold close those for whom the earth is shaking and who feel the heat of scorching rubble. Freshen the air for those who breathe the smoke and who taste the choking dust pouring over them.

Bless the children who are now orphans, the wives who now are widows, and the husbands who are no more. I see them now, on my television, and I offer this prayer for them. Bless all those whom I call countrymen. Help us to call for peace when many so want war. Help us to know that true peace comes, not from war, but when hearts fill with love instead of hate. And finally, please bless America for we have such a heavy heart. Amen
