Snip:

Troops to Protect Washington During Bush Inauguration
November 7, 2004

Despite campaigning on the slogan "America and the world are safer" George W. Bush and his Department of Homeland security are reportedly calling for unprecedented security for the presidential inauguration in January.

The Washington Post is reporting that thousands of police offices will be called in from around the nation along with a military protective force of possibly up to 4,000 soldiers."

4. They only sent 200 marines to Haiti
The number grew to a thousand, though.

They didn't send nearly that many to Liberia.

We've sent none (save for a few 'advisors') to the Sudan.

Didn't send any to help out with multiple hurricanes in Florida, although his father had sent 22,000 to help with Andrew.

Priorities, I guess.

17. LOL, graywarrior!
I used to call the parade held by G.H.W. Bush following the first Gulf War "the National Masturbation" -- done for effect and having nothing to do with reality.

13. hmmm....
That's what I was thinking. If we're so much SAFER now, and he's pulling cops and troops to guard his inauguration... who's keeping the rest of our nation safe?

14. OMG -- this sends chills up my spine
we really are a military dictatorship now, aren't we?

I hope it makes him feel powerful -- and safe. In truth, it shows how very weak he is -- so hated, around the world and in his own country, that he needs an army to protect him.

Contrast that with a Bill Clinton, or a Jimmy Carter, or even (blech) a Ronald Reagan.

Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 09:23 PM by Retrograde
is beloved by the masses - he did get a mandate after all, didn't he? Why would he need so many soldiers to guard him?

I know - maybe the joyous populace will strew so many flowers in his path that they may inadvertently cause a traffic hazard and the troops will be there to sweep them away. Or they'll be there to keep him from being overwhelmed by the outpourings of love from the grateful hordes. Yup, that's it.

(BTW, how many regular army soldiers are there in Iraq right now? Afghanistan?)

24. Well, it's nice to see
that our tax dollars, social security, and troops are being used for such an important event such as this! I mean, hell! We could be using it to help out our troops stuck in Iraq, but hey! The Inauguration Party is MORE important! *sense the sarcasm*
